Commercial Description:
This is a smooth, full-bodied beer. A rich "nuts & berries" flavor followed by a coffee-like finish. Based on the traditional English Porter beers ofthe late 1800's. Originally created for Irish immigrants working the shipping docks in England. They were a hard working lot who wanted a "stout" style brew with more alcohol content to drink during their all too short lunch breaks.

Bottle, thanks Iowaherkeye! Pours a really dark brown with a persistent, tall tan head. The nose is nutty with a reasonable amount of roastiness. Moderate sourness is noted in the aroma along with cacao. The body is on the lighter side of porters. A little hazelnut, dark chocolate, thin coffee, and cranberries in the flavor. It’s all right. I’d like a little more roast and a lot more body, ideally.

This is one of the few easily accesible Lake Louie beers I have tried many times but never rated. Once again I picked up a single and cracked it open once I was settled in. This happens to be a ’safe’ beer. It is decent but I keep wondering what it could be with a little more work.

Aroma / Appearance - The tannish faint head floated over the light black body. Swirling the glass made it move fluidly around; this is not a thick monstrosity. Iced coffee, black licorice and a hint of blackberry are the sum of the aroma. It’s not complex but it does get the job done.

Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel is a little thin and watery. Once you get past that it opens up with iced coffee, a mild spiciness and more hops than one would expect for a porter. It is decent but not exciting. On the other hand it drinks so smoothly that it would be easy to go through most of a six pack in a night.

Pours a deep cola brown color with a struggling head of tan. Plenty of ruby along the edges. Patches of lace attempt to cling to the glass but acquiesce to gravity and slide back into the liquid. Aromas of milk chocolate and coffee. Subtle roast. Flavors teeter-totter between chocolate and coffee. A smattering of green leafy hoppiness appears. Creamy body, with an occasional staccato of crispness. Quite drinkable.

I’d call this beer a keeper. I would recomend it. This beer pours a really brilliant opaque black with a bit of scummy tan head on top. Aroma is very coffee-ish, but also seemed creamy (and what does creamy smell like?). Flavor is additional coffeeness, both sweet and very roasty simultaneously. I also got some diacetyl buttery-ness as well. Mouthfeel is full, rich, and smooth.

Aroma of sweet malt, hops, slight cheesiness. Dark, dark brown color with minimal tan head. Flavors are coffee, roasted malt, light graininess, some floral or fruity notes. Mild overall. Palate is mild. Finish is lightly dry with a light musty fruitiness.

12oz bottle via skyview (thanks!). Pours almost black with a large tan head. Nose is chocolate malt. Taste is chocolate, plums, a little soy, some hops, and some roastiness. Body is thin/medium, carbonation is moderate. An tasty easy drinking sessionable porter.

Oooooo, had this with eggs benedict at 9am at the Old Fashioned. What a fine tasty porter to go with eggs! Chocalety smooth as silk brew. Super roaasty malts in this one. Smells great, tastes great, goes great with eggs, what more do you want?
