Commercial Description:
This is a smooth, full-bodied beer. A rich "nuts & berries" flavor followed by a coffee-like finish. Based on the traditional English Porter beers ofthe late 1800's. Originally created for Irish immigrants working the shipping docks in England. They were a hard working lot who wanted a "stout" style brew with more alcohol content to drink during their all too short lunch breaks.

Thanks a million JAY! 12oz bottle. deep brown color is reminiscent of cola. cherry highlights and a quickly diffused khaki head are also observed. tart and fruity nose with light chocolate and coffee notes. nice full body with a smooth presence and chocolate flavors. the finish, however is less impressive, the body thins out and the chance to showcase a dry roasty finish is missed.

The Dan Journal #102. Tasted 8/14/2007. 12oz bottle. Dark brown hue with a moldy ring of off-white head. Toasty caramel aromas. Medium bodied and tart. Toasty and spicy. Peppery. Citrus and berry characteristics. Tart astringent bitterness. Raspberries and dark bread. Mild touch of brownies, but the tartness overwhelmes. I guess that I prefer my porters a little more roasted toasty.

Pours Dark brown with some garnet highlights. Slight light brown head. This is quite a robust beer. Both the aroma and flavor have the same choco-smoke-rosted-nuttiness. Very nice. There’s a dry ashy finish. Even a creamy palate. I don’t konw that I could drink this all the time, but its still really nice.

12 oz bottle. Aroma sweet and somewhat roasted. Black body tan head. Flavor has a medium sweetness along with some decent cold coffee added. Kind of thin body wife bought this one last May in Wi. thoufgt it would maybe a bit thicker in texture. Good beer.

12 oz bottle. Poured an opaque black color. Head was thick, tan, and reduced gradually to nothingness. No lace. Aroma was of subdued roasty malt and a whiff of vanilla. Dry on the tongue with roasty malt, cola, and watered down coffee flavors. Body was much lighter than I had expected. This one is a bit overrated I’d say (92nd percentile the day I rated it).

12oz. Bottle $8.29 6-Pack Steve’s Liquor Madison Tommy’s Porter pours the darkest of browns into my pint glass. Ruby and mahogany highlights when held to the light. A thick cap of frothy beige head formed on the pour and stuck around for awhile. Left thin craggy lace lines down the glass with each sip. Wow! This is a good smelling porter. Mildly sweet malts in the form of brown sugar and a drizzle of molasses kick things off. Quickly followed by lightly roasted malts. A solid nuttiness swerves in and out along with freshly gound coffee and a touch of bittersweet chocolate. I even pick up cream as the beer warms. The taste is a wow too! Roasted malts set the stage and are the canvas for the complimenting flavors. That solid nuttiness comes back as soon as the beer hits my tongue. Mid palate there’s a nice quick piney hop punch quickly pushed aside in favor of freshly ground coffee. The coffee brings a welcomed bitterness on the finish. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Finishes with a combination of coffe ground and hop bitterness that lingers. Very nice. This is definately an easy drinking porter. Smooth and enjoyable. Another winner from Lake Louie. One of the better porters I’ve had in a long time. If Tommy’s Porter was available in my area it would be in constant rotation. 5/3/07

Bottle thanks to Brigadier sampled on 2/13/07: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a thin spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet earthy dark caramel and dark chocolate with some roasted notes. Body starts sweet and dark roasty with a touch of bittering earthy hops. Has a smooth dark chocolate finish. A nice porter.

Another bottle from Arena, Wisconsin. This pours a thick, deep mahogany with a creamy head. Drops fast after two minutes. Aroma of roasty light coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Flavors of the same, and bitterness throughout. Palate is smooth with just the right carbonation and bitterness.
