Commercial Description:
This is a smooth, full-bodied beer. A rich "nuts & berries" flavor followed by a coffee-like finish. Based on the traditional English Porter beers ofthe late 1800's. Originally created for Irish immigrants working the shipping docks in England. They were a hard working lot who wanted a "stout" style brew with more alcohol content to drink during their all too short lunch breaks.

From a 12 oz. bottle with the distinctive Lake Louie catfish logo, no freshness date. Poured a ruby hued coffee blackish brown with a foamy, frothy, rocky tan head that slowly settled into a thin sudsy lacing, minimal amount of laced sticking. Aromas of salty nuts, rye-like grain, berry fruitiness, and a light coffee and cocoa. Good, even carbonation and a softly crisp, slick, smooth light bodied mouthfeel, a bit too light for me. Tastes of toasted, salty nuts and a berry fruitiness, grainy with a soft coffee, a light hop bitterness towards the end and a fruity, powdery cocoa and coffee finish. An O.K. porter, smooth drinkability, but for me personally, not tasty enough to want more than a couple.

Bottle. Clear dark body. Rum, cherry, and candied chocolate in the aroma. The flavor dries out a bit with walnut and cranberry juice over dry chocolate. Tangy, roasty finish with a nice mouthfeel. A good porter.

Thanks Dave. The beer pours to a really dark brown body with a light khaki head. The aroma is heavily coffee with some light sweet milk chocolate. The flavor is deeply roasty with some light twigs and smooth malts/hops. Quite balanced. The palate is medium bodied with a nice texture and dry finish.

dark mostly opaque pour w/ a light brown head and some avg lacing. definate roast malts and milk chocolate aroma nicely swweet some light nut aromas too. Nice palate decent coating, light texture almost delicate. Flavor has lactose and chocolates, mostly the chocolates, very easy to drink, quite nice.. a little thicker and this would be very good.

Brown body with reddish tint. Aroma is chocolate, roast and molases. The flavor is on the light side, plenty of roast, brown sugar and chocolate. Medium/light body with a soft and smooth texture, but a touch thin at the finish.

Thanks JPM30. Looks like a porter, black colour light head but faint odour.Taste porter-like, faintly. OK brew but weak in its style. A little roast, a bit creamy grain. More of a nutty grainy brown then a robust porter.

I am very pleased to see that others thought, as I did, that this was a very solid porter. I didn’t expect much after having a different Lake Louie beer. It poured with a moderate cream lace after a vigorous pour, and the head stayed a long time on its dark brown (opaque except on the very edges, so 100% in my book) body. The coffee was distinct in the nose, amid a robust vanilla and roasted nut sensibility, and a hint of celery seed (something I often find in a good porter). Dry and roasty, peanuts, moderate chocolate. The body was soft, moderately fluffy, adequately supported with interesting-enough carbonation. No off flavors, questionmarks, or anything. Then I ate a bit of beef summer sausage and wham! it opened up in beautiful ways. The beer and sausage went together wonderfully. Extremely drinkable...extremely. I wouldn’t say it’s the "biggest" or "most complex" porter I’ve ever had, but it’s very well done indeed.
