Deep ruby red color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and sweet peat. Flavor is roasted chocolate malt at first followed by the herbal tang of the peat. Medium to full bodied with a long, creamy tartness in the finish that really finishes it off nicely.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours unclear and deep brown. Aroma is milky and mild roasted malt to chocolate malty aroma with lots of caramel. Flavor comes through with butterscotch, malt, and some roasty coffee finish. I am a big fan of this and it has turned into somewhat of a session beer for me as well.

Took a trip through Arena, WI (pop. 685) recently with a friend. I saw the sign while we were driving, and I though to myself, "Arena... Arena... where do I know that from?" Then I realized that Lake Louie, an excellent but little-known microbrewery, is based there. Needless to say, we had to stop at a liquor store immediately and stock up. Anyway... 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice amber red color. Slight off-white head, dissipates quickly, but leaves a good lacing. Aroma is malt and peat, somewhat tart. Flavor is less peaty than other scotch ales I’ve had, but there’s still an element of smokiness that goes well with the caramel malt flavors. Tangy and very smooth finish. Overall, not the strongest or most flavorful Scotch ale I’ve had, but it does down so easy I really can’t argue.

12oz bottle. Pours cola brown with a small tan head. Aroma is of malt, hops, medicinal alcohol, dark fruit, and pine. The taste starts off with a fair amount of dark fruit and medicinal alcohol. There is a faint hop character in the brew as well. There is a base of dry malt that balances the beer out. Lingering taste of pine. Mouthfeel is light and heavily carbonated. A lot better than I expected it to be. It was actually very drinkable.

bottle from bockyhorsey. reddish mahogany brown tinted brew with a short lived khaki-ish head. it smells overwhelmingly industrial or medicinal... off putting aromas of glue, solvent and eucalyptus stand out in front of notes of toffee/caramel, malt and star anise. the palate is on the sweeter side but finishes woody and dry... actually, it feels like liking a 9 volt. unfortunately, though predicted, the chemical aroma carries over to the flavor where it meets up with a bouquet of flowers and malt. it’s bad but not undrinkable... the body is medium. the high prickly carbonation makes it easier to drink. or at least make it less awful tasting... 3/4/3/2/7/1.9

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a huge brown beer - the head stemming from an over carbonated beer. The aroma has notes of an infection lending it acidic notes of lemon. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, as well as lighter notes of cinnamon and chocolate, leading to a dry finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle - Pours clear and brown with a small tan head. Smells sweet and caramelly, with a little booze and lactose. Taste the same caramel, with a little malt and chocolate and a boozy finish. It’s sweet, but not cloying. Smooth and creamy in the mouth. Solid, and I’d drink it just about any time.
