Commercial Description:
Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700's, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the 'Big Beer' drinkers among us.

12oz bottle. Deep orange-brown color, semi-transparent with a thin off-white head. Sweet, rich caramel toffee aroma, Smooth and malty flavor, a full bodied quality Wee-Heavy. Just how Wee-Heavy I certainly wonder, Id guess around 7 to 8%. Sticky, with some faint hop crispness covered up in the thick, syrupy malt. Excellent. Big, but mellow.

Bottle, courtesy sebletitje. Dark red pour, frothy white head, very sticky lacing. Big caramel nose, some slight cocoa, some bitter hops. Some sharp fruit flavors, some bitter hops, sweet malts, dry grain in the finish. Finishes well, drinkable.

An aggressive pour into my 25cl tulip glass yields a four finger thick, fluffy, tan colored crown of froth. The beer is a concentrated amber / brown color that shows a lightly hazed, cherry red color when held up to the light. The aroma has notes of butter and toffee, along with a toasted malt note and a finish of roast grain. The diacetyl character is the dominant note and it gets in the way enough that I find it hard to enjoy the nose.

The beer is sweet and clean tasting up front. It has a herbal hop note in the middle (menthol and pine are noticed) and it picks up a solid bitterness as the beer moves to the finish. The finish also has a touch of roast grain character to it; it is just a hint but it adds a lingering roast not that subtly influences the finish. The sweetness here is a complex, caramelized maltiness rather than a simplistic sugar-like note. The diacetyl is here in the finish of the flavor, though it is a bit more muted than in the nose; still it is a bit more than I can really enjoy.

This could have been a good Wee Heavy, poor fermentation management has ruined this beer for me though.

I really liked the taste of this one. A dark amber liquid with a small lacing of head on it. Sweet with malt, leaving a caramel and brown sugar flavor. Slight aftertaste that makes you double gulp. Not bad for a cold night drink.

Aroma of sweet malts, but also green apples and mustiness. Clear dark red-amber brown, big tan head, dissipates to no lace. Flavor is all over the map, sweet malt, green apple, floral green tea, roasted nuts, some peat smoke. It’s tasty in parts but not very well harmonized. Medium body, prickly carbonation.
