| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2006 Bottle... TITW Part Deux... Light brown ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The aroma is sweet and nutty with nice notes of chocolate and vanilla. Just a hint of wood. A little too bitter for a Scottish ale, but still solid and malty-sweet. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes bittersweet with a crisp, hop bite. Thanks go out to artusory for sharing the bottle with us! Sammy (4049), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Thick dark brown foam and lace. Taste of light smoke and tabacco, well hopped, nicely malted. Full mouthfeel. Whatever the alcohol, its well hidden. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 5, 2006 At least at the time I’m rating this it has a score of 3.55 and a Style % at 97.1. That doesn’t make sense to me. I would have thought, for sure, that there are a lot better scottish ales out there. There is a poignant smokey moment up front with a generally acceptable level of sweetness (I like ’em sweet so this could be even more) and some caramel base. But the presence of a notable metallic note diminished the enjoyment, with a lingering bitterness. Dickinsonbeer (3496), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is diacetyl with a candi-sugar sweetness and friuty esters. Lots of thick sweet caramel malts, toasted malts, and hints of fruits and chocolate in the flavor with a bit more butterscotch. Finishes with a bit of astringency. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Not as good as dirty bastard. Nice roasty coffee note. I want to try LL reserve scotch ale!! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
