Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 15, 2005 An unclear amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and hints of wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, wood, and fruit. argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA Jun 20, 2004 (brewtopia04) Clear brown body with foamy tan head. Aroma is mild sweet, herbal, toasy, peaty. Taste is mild sweet, herbal/earthy, peaty. Light-medium body, somewhat watery. hopscotch (4591), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Feb 27, 2004 Co-rated by Scraff... Clear, mahogany ale with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head.
Very well retained with nice, creamy, thick lacing. Chocolatey aroma with notes of cashews, chocolate chip cookie dough and dark breads. The flavor, although well-balanced and well-bittered, is a bit of a let down. Smells better than it tastes. Light to medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. Good brew, overall. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jul 20, 2002 Updated: Apr 13, 2004July 2002: On tap at the Vermont Brewers' Fest. Seems to have a fair strength of both hops and malt, but there's little in the way of floral/herbal/fruity notes; little sugar either. Despite its strength and good body, its terribly forgettable stuff. 6/3/6/3/12=3.0
April 2004: sample at the brewpub. Very dark walnut, nearly opaque, bit of long-lasting head. Smoky, woody, full-bodied, fairly dry in the nose. A bit caky and chocolaty, little bitterness, some berry hints towards the end. Beautiful lacing. acrdz (4386), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 14, 2006 Murky dark brown. Scent of butterscotch, wood, maple, brown sugar and caramlized plums. Very bright and fresh taste up front, lacking depth but still very enjoyable - flavors of wood, plums, brown sugar and some chewy bready flavors. A beer that could be a brown ale and could be a scotch ale and could be a strong ale - it’s an interesting multi-style hybrid that has it’s own place. It’s good to find beer like this.
