Commercial Description:
This big bodied, blonde, doppelbock is brewed in celebration of that festival of all festivals, Mardi Gras. Generous amounts of malts are added to this beer to give it a sweet taste.

Particle laden light orange with a thin tan head that goes away in a jiffy. Aroma of cereal grains, toasted Munich malts and light alcohol. Taste of stale grain, alcohol, mild fruit and lots of malt. Kind of thin with an oily texture and mild warming effects.

Appearance: Pours a clear, golden body with a medium-sized, white head. Smell: Sweet-smelling mixture of malts and corn with notes of flowers, Golden Delicious apples, light citrus, and, oddly enough, some vanilla. Taste: Quite sweet bready maltiness and creamed corn with some curious traces of smooth vanilla. Drizzle of tart apple juices. Floral tones with some light citrus. Low bitterness. Touch of alcohol precedes the smooth, drying finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability: Well, to be honest, it was actually better than expected. It’s smooth, it’s sweet, it’s Mardi Gras-approved!

Bottled Dec week 3 (Imperial Maibock). Poured copper with fizzy head that is gone in seconds. Aromas of toasted malts and some earthiness. Earthy flavor with light citrus. Light body.

What is it, a lager or a bock? Either way, it is nothing great. Sizzling, rapidly dropping head. Sweet, floral aroma with a touch of skank. Fun label. Dark gold pour. This tastes dry and a little malty. The flavor suggested a mix of cheap bock and lager. This is the fourth Lakefront I have tried, and it is my least favorite. I have not become a huge fan of this brewer, altho a couple of their releases are all right.

Bottle - Pours light copper with a tiny white head. Sweet malt on the nose, but not overpowering. There’s a weird soapy aroma, as well as some mild hops. Taste is sweet and malty with a real bitter hop finish. It’s a little hot on the end and a little too syrupy. Wasn’t really feeling this one -- reminds me a bit of a poor man’s Capital Maibock.

From bottle, Lakefront Big Easy Imperial Maibock, but it is the same as a Lager? Light amber color, not what you’d expect from a bock. It pours a finger think head that leaves a thin lacing. Light malt aroma and taste. Very smooth and drinkable, with the two different styles on the same beer, it tastes great, but it doesn’t strike me as a bock.

Draft. Pours orange amber with an off white head. The aroma is malty, sweet, toasty and nutty, with a hint of hops. The flavor is well balanced, with sweet caramel, toasted nuts and a hint of floral hops. Pretty good.

Bottle. Light to medium golden pour. Aroma of sweet malt a light hops. Flavors were mostly malty and well blended. This brew falls into the Maibock style for the BJCP percentages range all the way up to 7.4% which does not make this an Imperial, even though it holds the name. I e-mailed the brewery with my complaint and if you are as big a nerd as I am, you are welcome to do the same. Who knows, maybe they will change the name or kick up the alcohol and actually make it an imperial.
