CaptainCougar (4637), Rockville, Maryland, USA Feb 15, 2003 Dark amber brwon colored with a thin frothy head. Aroma of an American standard with more malt and some roasted notes. Thick with a sweet caramel palate and an earthy finish, like freshly mowed grass. Pretty complex and very smooth, fulfilling, and drinkable. One of Lakefront's best that I've had. hopdog (4567), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured a deeper orangish / copper color with small sized off whtie head. Aromas of nuts, toffee, caramel, and some dark fruits. Tastes of dark fruits, toffee, lighter nuttiness, and a little bready. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Apr 1, 2002 12/10/01 Bottled, first try. Beautiful tawny red/brown, thick body with a lovely meringuelike head; typically strong aroma from this brewer, heavily malty with notes of figs and pie spices. Flavor is just a bit of a letdown, too dominated by alcohol (this goes down more like a doppel, I’d guess an ABV of 7% or more), but with a thick mouthfeel and oaky smoky taste, which dominates the wonderful ending, as scotch-like and strong as you’ll find in an American bock. Superb; reminiscent of Spaten Opt more than anything else, and another fine example from America’s best unknown brewery.
2nd rating, April 1. After 5 more months, this brew is starting to lose its head more quickly, and seems to be taking on more wine-like qualities. I’m liking the flavor more and more; some serious caramel and toffee, candied fruit; mmm reminds me almost of their Barley Wine. I’m ready to put this just about at the level of Celebrator... Cornfield (4263), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jul 26, 2007 Caramel colored with a dinkus off-white head, this has an aroma of sweet tasty malts and a bit of sourness. The flavor of dark dried fruit is added to the taste and a touch of earthy hop bitterness joins in near the finish, and it’s a dry finish at that. Okay.

JPDIPSO (4234), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Mar 11, 2002 A good bock. A dark amber appearance. Good caramel malt flavors with just a touch of toastiness.
