Commercial Description:
Eastside Dark The rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor ot this find Dark Bavarian style lager beer is derived from a precise blending of three different specialty barley malts, chocolate, black patent, and Munich malt. Munich malt is also added to bring about the creamy body of this malty brew that has an original gravity of 1060. The most impressive aspect of ths brew is the perfect balance between the specialty malts and coveted Mt. Hood hops. Unlike many other dark beers, East Side Dark doesn't have the bitter aftertaste associated with it. Instead, your palate is greeted with the rich body and balanced flavor that only this beer can deliver.

Yes this stuff is quite dark. Dark for a dark lager but now I see it is in the dunkel style category. Has a reddish tinge on the corners of the glass. Aroma of good dark beer, perhaps some roastiness in there. Slight creamy head. Very good dark beer flavors, somewhat like a mild porter but more than a dark lager. Rather friendly and easy to enjoy for a lager lover. Decent carbonation. Very little bitterness can be detected thru the session. Some charred flavors without the bitter bite. Well mannered with a slight bitter linger, but i can easily live with it. Enjoyable, would purchase again.

Poured a see through lighter brown color with small amount of fizzy offwhite head. Aroma sweet caramel malts with a slight burnt scent. Flavor mostly sweet light and caramely water but then also has an almost coffeeish bitter finish. Overall, decent.

Bottle. Pour is a dark brown with a one finger high tan head. Aromas are of roasted malt, but not really a roasted barley smelll... almost like oats or wheat that has been burnt slightly. Also comes across as slightly earthy. Flavor is much more in line with roasted barley... a coffee-like burnt taste that is sweetened by a chocolate undercurrent. There is a mildly distracting backnote that is both creamy and sour (like citrus sour?) This sort of builds in the aftertaste and seems to pull against the direction that the beer first seems to want to head. Not bad, but could be much better with a few minor adjustments.

I found it a bit more like a schwartzbier then a dunkel, a bit more roasty and thin bodied, softer on the palate, smooth and lingering chocolate finish. Malts start with a good roasted taste, solid sweeter chocolate and cocoa. Finish was soft and balanced. The carbonation was light so it was smooth on the palate.

Had this beer on 10/31/2002. Aroma is a sweet lightly roasted malt scent. Color is a deep rich amber, there are some flouts in there. Carbonation is light with thin head. Taste is richly sweet. Starting with a heavy/medium body it goes down with a rich feel. Finish is rich and sweet, no bitterness to balance it out. This is not a brew I would go out and buy again.

Smells alot like saurkraut. Not the most pleasing aftertaste as well. Doesn’t taste horrible going down, not a beer that I would continually drink.

A friend of mine got married (poor bastard) & his brother brought down from WI. a keg of this...I wish I had a brother like his!! What a rockin dunkel! Its been a while but I would happily kill you to drink this daily!...On Draft However 4 years later I had the chance to have some in bottle...It is a totally different animal. Lacking in body & flavor. My rating is a ballance of both.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy brown with reddish highlights. Small creamy beige head that disappears quickly. The aroma is medium sweet caramel malts, a slight touch of coffee, and a hint of metal. The flavor is similar with the caramel malts gaining some roasted character and a slight hint of earthy citrus making an appearance. Medium-light body. This is a one time taste as there are too many brews out there better than this.
