Commercial Description:
Eastside Dark The rich, coffee-like aroma and flavor ot this find Dark Bavarian style lager beer is derived from a precise blending of three different specialty barley malts, chocolate, black patent, and Munich malt. Munich malt is also added to bring about the creamy body of this malty brew that has an original gravity of 1060. The most impressive aspect of ths brew is the perfect balance between the specialty malts and coveted Mt. Hood hops. Unlike many other dark beers, East Side Dark doesn't have the bitter aftertaste associated with it. Instead, your palate is greeted with the rich body and balanced flavor that only this beer can deliver.

Pours like a Dr. Pepper, cola with ruby red, light fizzy head. The aroma is all about the malt, chocolate and some coffee. Cocoa powder is the strongest taste, but there is some burnt nuts and coffee in there too. The end has a few notes of alcohol and lactose. Aftertaste is very light, but some lingering coffee and oak flavors. Body is rich and creamy, but this is negated by high carbonation and a slightly buttery texture.

Bottled beer of the month. Average dunkel. Had a nice sweet malt taste to it. Nothing special.

Slightly tart, but also toasty aroma with a hint of fresh grains. The body is a muddy red/brown with a diminishing tan head. Fairly tangy, tart fore with some mild chocolate notes. Some sour citrus notes int he finish. Seems pretty off and my bottle was fresh.

Deep red, thin off-white head. Nice nose, chocolate, cocoa, a bit bitter. Very creamy and rich, sweet and thinly roasty, a bit of smoke. Some bitterness. A mite thin at the end, but starts with excellent roasts. Good stuff, but a bit heftier than I’d expect for a dunkel.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a creamy head. Nice, rich aromas of chocolate and roasted grains. Taste is sweet with a bit of grittiness in the mouthfeel. I wish the flavor was as righ as the aroma though.

A bit skunky scent but I can pick up some tart fruits in there. Appearance is deep redish brown with a thin off-white head which dissapears quickly. Slight carbonation. Taste is sweet and malty with the tart fruit blending in nicely. A strong bitter finish but little to no after taste. Pretty good but nothing special.

Dark crimson, clear. Roasted malts, some chocolate in the aroma. Rich malty base, slightly nutty. Buttery taste with some brown sugar as well. Finish gets bitter, slight hops.

Murky reddish-brown. Somewhat stale nose, with a hint of dusty chocolate (crumbled), a touch of roast and a hint of brown sugar and fruit. Flavor is heavily sweet, malt accented, full of Munich malts, caramel, chocolate and light hops on the finish. Pretty agressive, well extracted malt flavor with a nice balance between the malt and hops, but it’s so thin and watery in the mouth, which effects its score.
