A medium to light bodied sweet stout. Malts are nice and roasty then chocolately. Touch of smoke and vanilla. Hops are slightly bitter. Touch of wine as well as a lot of coffee. Interesting beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Dough77 (777), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | May 4, 2005 Quite a weak coffee stout if I might say so myself. Had a lot of these recently and this really seems to be the least appealing. Pour was dark brown/black with small head. nose is full of coffee, some chocolate and malts. Flavor is a bit bitter, but mostly cheap coffee like and very un-interesting. Not a personal fav. SledgeJr (2972), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2005 In the bottle. Black with a brown fluffy head. Smells like a chocolate milkshake. Coffee roasted flavor is the dominant taste. Bitterness seems to come from the coffee, not any discernable hops. Strong taste, medium body. OK beer. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 13, 2005 Pours very dark and comes off with a strong roasted coffee nose. Roasted chocolate and coffee in taste, quite refreshing with a touch of bitter in the finish. A very nice brew. It definately has a coffee flavor, but suprisingly very bitter (from the coffee, not the hops), and not in a good way. szkot (100), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 27, 2005 Updated: Mar 29, 2005Nice sweet hops and coffee in smell. Black body with small dark head, maroon tint. I like the strong coffee taste without being real bitter. Makes it very smooth and drinkable. But too thin makes it quite watery. Leaves a light sweetness and the bitter comes out a little bit. Good beer, and reasonably priced too! SpecialSauce (47), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2005 The strength of this beer’s aroma is that it’s not strong at all. Coffee notes can be detected, but they’re not overpowering. Pours almost jet black, with a tan head (I love it, reminds me of the oils on top of a nice espresso!). The flavor is not heavy it all, it’s moderately firm in your mouth, and overall a little muddled. The coffee flavor doesn’t come through right away, it’s a creeper. All in all though I think the not-so-intense coffee flavor makes this beer very drinkable. Not an instant winner, but definitely something I’d buy again.
