Maybe I just got sold on the packaging or the fancy name, but I expected more from this beer. Poured from a bottle into a snifter, the appears was black in color. There was not much of an aroma that I could detect, but maybe I was just expecting to get blown away with the coffee. Pretty thin body with flavor of bitter coffee and sweet chocolate for the taste. I’ll have no problem finishing the six pack I bought, but for the price I don’t think I will buy it again.

Dec 5, 2009 Very basic coffee stout. Nice coffee flavor and good overall balance. Pours smooth and more dark brown than the classic pitch black for most stouts.

Dec 2, 2009 Picked it up in a Lakefront sampler pack and this was one of the better ones. This is a very candy like, sweet stout that reminds me of the Old 38 stout. Pours a deep dark brown, almost black, overflowing tan head. Smell was a very strong coffee with a ton of sugar, McCafe like. This a better beer but not the best, pretty simple. But since this is a small micro in NorCal, big ups to that for getting out here.

Nov 12, 2009 Much like a Guinness, this pours almost black, with hints of brown around it’s edges, and a slight trace of ruby. Solid one-finger head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving a thin foamy top. Quite decent lacing.
Dark fruits and roasted coffee beans. Slight maltiness. The coffee is not as prominent as I’d hoped it would be.
Light coffee notes mingle with a hint of chocolate. Very slight malt presence. Overall, this is weak.
Thin and waterey. Unimpressive.
This could be an easy session beverage. Then again, so could water. Just not much flavor going on here to tempt me to come back.

Nov 10, 2009 The nose is spot on, lots of that strong, potent black coffee and a little chocolate. Appearance is pretty average, a mostly opaque black with a thin, fading biege head. Lightweight and somewhat watery, this feels more like drinking drip-brewed coffee than a stout. Flavors are a bit too charred and acrid without the hoppy balance or a thick, malty backbone.

Nov 5, 2009 Sampled at the Houston RB tasting. Nose of super coffee. Taste is predominately coffee and light burnt malts. Very light and thin body for the style. Not bad but not memorable.

Oct 31, 2009 A little dirty looking in the glass. Aroma is subdued, a little coffee, but mostly sweet chocolate malt. Flavor is similar. COffee - though in the name of the beer - doesn’t really show up until halfway through the glass. Mostly more of the sweet malt. Pretty thin body and highly carbonated. OK, but I didnt feel like another.

Oct 27, 2009 bottle thanks to bleeng. Shared at the Houston RB Tasting in October. Pours black with a thin, tan head. Nose is of coffee grounds. Taste is of coffee. Mouthfeel is thin and dry.

Oct 22, 2009 bottle. pours a nice black ... but without much head... very thin tan head... pleasant roasted coffee aroma along with some chocolate and sweet malts. thin to medium body that seems to get more robust as time moves on... more sweetness over the mouth with some light coffee flavors. finishes well with a lingering bitterness supported by more sweetness and a touch of nuts. This one is underrated.
