Nice looking stout, very dark brown almost black but not quite, nice tan head.
Aroma is fine, as expected, coffee and roasty malts.
Sweet malty flavour, with a hint of nice dark coffee, some fruity aspects also.
Plate is quite watery, really watery in fact even for a sub-5% beer.
OK but coulda been better had they improved the palate.
mwelsh13 (140), Maryland, USA Sep 3, 2008 12 oz bottle pours deep opaque brown and black with a thick and fluffy tan head. Coffee, toffee, and chocolate aroma. Rich coffee and burnt marshmallow flavor. Slightly sour finish. A little thin for a stout. mabel (1633), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2008 [1613-20080816] Tap. Mild aroma of malt roast. Dark brown black body with a long-lasting creamy light tan head. Roasted malt flavour with sour coffee notes. Medium body. Interesting but too sour to be repeatable.
(c/o swoopjones, w/ him, frylock, jerc, rudolf) fredandboboflo (508), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of grape and bittersweet coffee. Flavor of sweet malt with some fruitiness and nuttiness. Nothing overwhelming, but not a bad beer. swoopjones (1115), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 bottle shared with Rudolf, mabel, jerc & frylock. Pours a black medium to thinner body with khaki head. Aroma was roasted malts, coffee. Taste was peppery, almost jalapeno juice. Could of been the prevoius Smoked porter but didnt get that flavor. Couldnt get the pepper thing off my palate. Not verry good ChainGangGuy (1536), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Aug 16, 2008 Rumor has this may be an older bottle, but when pressed as to the exact date, my friend politely told me to "mind my own business."
Appearance: Pours a black body with a thin, wispy, beige head.
Smell: Malty nose smelling primarily of chocolate, with lesser notes of roast, nuts, and fruit.
Taste: Chocolate-covered coffee beans with a hint of licorice, almonds, and even prunes. Tiny, tiny blip of acidity. Mild hops with a small tingle of bitterness. Roasty, chocolatey finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Decent enough! Definitely easy drinking, particularly with the restrained ABV.
