Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

Poured a very light offwhite offyellow color with almost no head. Flavor a weird light watery corny taste with matching weird smell. Not sure what exactly that is - maybe the sorghum. All i know is i dont like it one bit.

From a bottle, poured into a pint glass. Yellow-straw color. Frothy white head that lasted until the end of the glass. Very light hop flavor, but really pale and bland. Definitely a citrusy flavor, sweet, with some spices. Finishes clean. Definitely far from my first choice in a beer, but really not that bad.

All I can say after drinking this is that I’m glad I’m not on a restricted diet. Pours to a lemony-straw color, with a thin white head that lingers thru mid glass, and leaves a little lacing. Both the aroma and taste are hard to identify, but "funky" best describes them. A very odd taste and finish, no doubt due to the sorghum. If someday I have this asa my only choice, I may reconsider, but uintil then, I’ll pass on Sorghum beer.

Had this beer on 6/2/2006. Aroma is a sweet crystal malt scent. Color is a bright gold with good carbonation and a thin head. Taste is crisp and light with a sweet and sour flavor. Starting with a light body it goes down with a crisp feel and a sweet flavor. Finish comes on with the sweet flavor turning a bit sour and leaving you with a mild yet rich sweet feel. Its just not good.

Much like a pale lager, clean and crisp, somewhat bland, but for a prominent lemon-citrus quality that appears in both the aroma and flavor. Straw color. Potable.

12oz bottle, very surprising that this came from Lakefront as most of their other beers are are great in my opinion. I have to say that this is to date the worst beer I have ever had. It was pure nasty. Save your money.

yellow with a slight haze, whispy white head that’s easily roused to produce some drippy lace, light sweet candy aroma with a hint of spices, good body, nice unusual sweetness, balanced with some light spices, an interesting experience, labeled as a beer made from sorghum and rice extract

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a light golden pale blonde brew with a fast dissolving white head that disolves clean. Aroma of mostly fruits and citrus zest. Bery little malt scents. Taste is light bodied, well carbonated with flavors of fruity bread, honey and some barnyard funk. Finish is slightly gritty and metalic and then a watery aftertaste that is not too impressing.
