Commercial Description:
An all-sorghum beer. New Grist, a beer for Celiacs brewed from sorghum and gluten-free yeast grown on molasses. New Grist is the first “official” gluten free beer in the U.S., although it cannot technically be called “gluten-free” until established governmental guidelines are determined for all products claiming “gluten-free” status. In the interim, this Celiac-safe beer can be called “barley-free,” and is a welcome product to those who need to live on restricted diets due to intolerance to gluten, a protein found in common brewing grains such as barley, wheat, rye, oats, spelt, kamut and triticale.

Bottle from the LCBO- Pale sparkling gold with a fizzy and loud white cap. Nose is rice, grains, doughy, bread crust. Tastes of sweet grains and lemon, of rice too. Quick fizzy finish. Pretty standard fare, and not too bad for a Sorghum beer.

clear straw color with very active carbonation. Aroma smells like a tart, very light white wine- weird. Taste is light bodied, dry, it actually tastes more like a white wine in that it’s pretty tart and has some mild sour notes. It’s the first all sorghum beer I’ve had and on that front it’s interesting....will I have another? I’m not sure...

Bottle. Pours gold with a wispy head. Aroma of light hops and a certain grain. Flavor starts mellow malt sweet, then transitions to a strange rice flavor. Aftertaste is worse. Overall, strange, and not rewarding. What is the point of this beer besides pure novelty?

This almost had a lambic-esque quality about it. 12 oz purchased from Stones River Total Bev. in Murfreesboro. Poured a clear gold color with a one finger off white head. Sweet aroma and a sour flavor.

12 oz. bottle. Pours light orange with minimal white head. Smells a little lemony and some weird cookie or cracker. Tastes citrusy and very sour. Some lemon and a very weird grain taste. Has an unusual sourness that doesnt go right in a beer, but not terrible.
