Where the other microbreweries in the area take a sweeter approach, Lakefront piles on the malt. Rich and nutty. An enjoyed experience, nonetheless, but it’s hard to drink any Oktoberfest after you’ve been blessed by Paulaner’s. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 15, 2004 orange, off white head. pungently sweet aroma of marzipan, earth, malt and alcohol. flavour is a bit nutty(almond?) with a bit of melon, berries and honey. malty with a tart finish. not bad Silphium (2144), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2004 I’m going against the grain (pardon my pun) on this one. What I really liked about this Oktoberfest was due to a suspected flaw- the dominant nature of the body was partially fermented malt syrup. This gave the beer a very sweet, toasted cereal flavor that reminded me of honey graham crackers. Also had a sweetened iced tea aroma with hints of fruit juice. I suspect if this was more fully fermented the sweetness would be toned down...but maybe then I’d rate it closer to its 2.74 average! Tasty but I could only drink one or two as it stands. Thanks Matt (MrFacto) for the bottle! Nexxus (261), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 2, 2004 Clear medium amber with a medium diminishing frothy off white head. Aroma of lemon, apricot, plum, raspberry jam, caramel, and toast. Medium watery body with a moderate amount of carbonation. Flavor of apricot, green apple, caramel, toast, lemon and raspberry jam. A sour oktoberfest? Not a bad beer, but definitely not what I was expecting. Decent. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Very basic, watery beer. Some toastiness and dryness at the finish, but nothing to really tell it apart from the other dozen, or so, Oktoberfests in my fridge. Sampled from a mixed six from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2004 Aroma tends toward putrid. Smelly socks. There is something off here. No visible carbonation. Amber, cloudy body, wth a small off-white head and no lace. The first sip made my nose crinkle. A little tart. Sour and acidic. The finish is better than the initial mouthfeel; there are some positive flavors in there including a small hop profile, but they are overwhelmed by the sourness. Needs a little more sweetness to counteract. howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 21, 2004 Updated: Oct 22, 2004Sorry, Lakefront, I’ve OD’ed on Oktoberfests this season and you have the dishonor of being my last. That aside, however, this is a boring example. Not much aroma, little bitterness. Juicy sweet maltiness, some slight astringency or acidity, I can’t tell which it is. Whatever, it’s off-putting. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 19, 2004 Pours hazy amber with a small beaded creamy head. Aroma is very much of marzipan, or dentist office, carrying some fruitty honey sweetness. Acidic and very lemony. Some very dull malts. Sweet chemically finish. Nothing special.
