Commercial Description:
Like a Northwest France strong summer ales - quenching and refreshing, but robust enough to match the full-bodied fare of a brasserie. Weighing in at a more decorous 5.8 percent ABV, the Rendezvous Ale is a hybrid of malty richness and enough hops acidity (Brewer's Gold, Tradition) to cut through the strong flavors of roasted lapin au moutarde, or a burly beef steak frites.

On tap at the GTMW. Murky amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel and light grassy hops. Taste of caramel, sweet and toasted malt with a caramelly finish. Pretty easy drinking with not too much bitterness.

I drank a couple of these at the Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation, Inc. Sounds of Summer, while listening to those X Cleavers. It was generally good with a slight musty taste. Half way through the first, my taste buds were sufficiantly numb to no longer notice this. This flavor has been present in over half the Lakefront beers that I’ve drank this summer, some worse than this. I suspect some contaminated yeast. Also, the beer was sticky when a small amount spilled on my hand. Does this indicate the presence of residual suger? It did not taste overly sweet. There was very little hop flavor.

Served on draught at the Wisconsin Micro-brewers Beerfest in Chilton, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-hazy copper amber brew with a creamy off-white head that has some excellent retention and some great lacing. Aroma is quite malty, flowery hops a touch of banana yeast esters and some candi sugar. Taste is quite smooth, light carbonation with a creamy texture, and flavors of caramel malt, some fruity character, flowery hops and a touch of yeast. Finish is just as smooth as its flavor, semi-sweet aftertaste of multi-grain malt and a touch of yeast.

I had 2 of these at the Coquette Cafe and was amazed that a local brew company can produce such a nice beer. I would call it a cross between a Belgian Ale and a French Biere de Garde. Sweet grassy hops, light bitterness, nice yeastiness. The beer is a nice amberish color with a nice whiteish head. The palate was medium bodied, velvety, easy drinking. Went well with the French food.

The only bad thing I found about this beer is it smells like Easter Egg dye. Very smooth and pleasant to drink. I was happy to find this on tap at the brewery for a change.

Dark amber color with a medium head. Slightly malty aroma with a hint of spice. A general malt taste with a vague herbal overtone. A bit of a bitter finish. Not really what I would call a Biere de Garde, but it’s not all that bad.
