The appearance is amber with a nice sized head. The flavor is tastes like the aroma with a soapy astringent bitterness. The palate is thin but well carbonated. The aftertaste is bitter and buttery. I am glad I finally got a fresh bottle. notalush (2692), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2003 [draught] I had no idea this was a vienna at all, and never would have guessed it either. It's character is much more like a bock. Sweet aroma, caramel and cloves - rusty brown/burnt orange color - the flavor is very full, with caramel, nuts and slight chocolate notes - the finish is smooth, though bitter at times, but this is still a great beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 30, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with footbalm, thanks Eric!) Half an inch of light-tan head covers the hazy, ruddy amber body. At first, the mildly aromatic nose is sweet, caramely, and lightly malty, with a balancing touch of hops, but as more headspace opens up, the beer opens up as well and becomes more malty and caramely. But this is a much more flavorful beer than the initial aroma lets on. It starts sweet and very caramely, and then is somewhat balanced by a moderate bitterness. But that bitterness eventually turns a bit harsh late in the finish, resulting in a slightly acerbic aftertaste. This was bottled the end of April, 2005, so this is five months old and should have had enough time for that harshness to fully mellow out. Medium bodied. The sweetness sits on the palate, and you’d think the bitterness would help to clean that out a bit, but it doesn’t. This is okay, but there’s just something about the way this beer finishes that puts a damper on what is otherwise a very nice beer. Aurelius (2655), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 28, 2003 Good malt and slight vanilla lager aroma. Darkish chestnut brown, decent label. Very fruity and well-balanced. Tangy finish. Don't know that this is a 95-percentile beer, but it's pretty good. 5000 (2638), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2006 Bottle: Orangish amber, moderate off-white head, foamy, spotty lacing. very light carbonation. Bready caramel aroma, light citrus oddly enough. Moderate malty character, slightly bready, otherwise fairly grainy. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Grainy finish, malty, but not as smooth as others. Still leaves me wanting some Eliot Ness. Thanks JCapriotti for the freebie!

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/20 | Dec 14, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of MrFacto via trade. Aroma of caramel, fruit, and grassy hops. Pours a hazy amber with a small off-white head. Quick caramel is quickly followed by moderate citrus sourness. Finish has some grassy hops that lightly mingle with the sourness. Something is really off. 1FastSTi (2590), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Had some pints of this last night on tap. It pours to a orangish golden body with a creamy white head that disapated rather quickly. The flavor has some hidden floral hops that are nice when detectable. There’s lots of sweet malts in the foreground. Kinda reminded me of caramel and toffee. Is good on tap. Bottles, less so.
