Commercial Description:
American Wheat Ale Wheat Monkey Ale captures the fresh, unfiltered spontaneity of our brewers’ creativity. Crisp and refreshing year-round, this American Wheat Ale pours a lazy, hazy golden color. Its large, white, foamy head can be attributed to the generous amount of malted white wheat added to the mash. The aroma is enhanced by our fruity house ale yeast and its fresh baked bread flavors are perfectly balanced with a Cascade hop addition.

Ok, first rating. and my 100th wheat ale. To be blunt, not much competition in front of this one. Cloudy, "dirty" straw color. Smaller white head. Straight forward malt-o-meal aroma. Perhaps a bit of banana, but I just might be searching for something more. Big wheat start. A hint of toasted bread in the middle. I catch a touch of floral hops as it traverses to the finish. Hint of yeast in the finish. LInger is a bit doughy. This is like a wheat cream ale, with the grains and light yeast. A wheat ale that is slightly better than the norm in this genre.

On draught during the Great Taste of Midwest 2009 in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a hazy golden pale colored brew with an average sized white head that slowly dissipates. Aroma of golden grain malt with wheat, some sweet banana esters, a hint of orange zest and bread dough. Taste is medium bodied, plenty of carbonation with flavors of golden grain malt, some bubblegum, banana, a hint of clove and a touch of citrus. Finish is semi-sweet, with a nice balanced yeast and grain aftertaste that slowly disappears.

Bottled. Poured hazy medium golden with a lovely initial cap of white head (didn’t stick around for too long, but I’m rating 1st impression). The aroma picked up toasted, candied banana and bubblegum over soft doughy and honey character.. quite sweet, but well-presented. The flavor found honey, cereal, and sweet bananas at the core with light spices and tanginess from the wheat around.. short, quite sweet finish. Lighter-bodied, sweet, and.. well.. creamy on the palate.. lacked some expected wheat character, and John’s talk of "wheat cream ale" seems about right to me. Decent stuff.

Clear yellow with a white foam. Aroma is wheaty, citrusy, but empty. Taste is soured wheat, some spice and lemon.

How can you not like a beer with a cute monkey on the label? Perhaps opening it and trying it, that’s how. Perhaps I was expecting Oberon… Hazy and murky dark yellow with a thin white fast fading dissipating head. Aroma of yeast, wheat and cereal grains. Taste of wheat, bread and mild yeast with a corny aftertaste with a grainy consistency.

Bottle Pours a cloudy orange gold with a deminishing thin white head. For as small as the head was laces fairly well. Has a strong grain aroma with some wheat. Has a decent carbonation. The flavor is very grainy with some wheaty sweetness. Has a light body. The texture is watery. Has a weak finish and a mild aftertaste. Not awful but not great. Most likely the last one of these I drink.
