Strong alcohol, some rich malt, opaque copper, pours a small toffee head. Full malt flavour, alcohol is noted, a very warming beer, hoping it mellows with time. Glad I got to try this!
beerbuzzmontreal (2736), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 25, 2008 Clear bronze pour with a medium white head. Aroma of candied fruits and caramel, it feels a bit bland for the style. Flavor of mild floral hops, caramel and candied fruits. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. mabel (1662), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 [1455-20080531] Tap. Boozy faint lemon aroma. Clear, orange body with a big long-lasting foamy off-white head. Boozy grainy sweet malt flavour has heavy malt. Medium-full body is sweet. A little sweet.
(@ L’Amere A Boire; Montreal, QC) Glouglouburp (1997), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 21, 2008 In short: A problematic minimalist extra-sweet beer of some kind
How: Bottle at brewpub. First batch, drank one months ago
The look: Mostly clear golden copper body topped by an initially large white head.
In long: The soapy nose with Pledge™ elements was scary. Body is very sweet yet rather thin. Just sugary sweetness, some honeyed cereals and overripe fruits flavour. Feels like a brutal 12% beer and the thing is only 8%. A welcomed light dryness comes in the very end in the form of dry paper. I shared the bottle with Dickinsonbeer and we both thought it was very crappy, I hope we got a bad bottle. This is the first bottled beer I drink from this otherwise excellent brewpub and to the brewer I say the same thing that all my ex-girlfriends have said to me: “For the love of god, please give up the bottle”. jerc (3210), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 4, 2008 2008-05-31. Crisp golden amber body with a nice frothy off white/beige head. (3+) Sweet aroma, grains, mild caramel, muted bit of toasted malt. (7+) Sweet flavour, sweet caramel malt has a dry note in the finish. Light toasty malt undertones. Gets just a touch more hot as it warms up.(7+) Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate. (3+) A pretty tame, simple barleywine, but rather nice. Bottle, L’Amere a Boire, Montreal
