notalush (2027), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Aug 25, 2008 A fairly straighforward, well made dunkelweizen - a lot of phenolic character and clove - medium tartness, followed by notes of chocolate-covered cherries and nuts - wheat is apparent in the finish, as tartness reenters the picture - gets sweeter as it warms, and gains a lot more fruit and spice complexity (overripe apples, nutmeg, etc.) - quite nice. Murf_Dog (4), Waterford, Michigan, USA does not count Aug 12, 2008 Nicely done Dunkel Weiss which is hard to find in North America - reminded me very much of the Franziskaner I had in Stuttgart a couple of years ago. Light on the palate as any Weiss beer should be, but full-bodied roasted malt flavor (think of a blend between classsic Heffe Weissen and a good Nut Brown Ale). Thick and cloudy - typical for the unfiltered nature of this type. Very well done (but save room for a pint of the Stout Imperial).
beerbuzzmontreal (2700), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 16, 2008 Pours a muddy brown color with a thin offwhite head. Interesting aroma of bananas, chocolate and cloves. Very good flavor of chocolate, bananas and cloves, there’s a mild toasty/ burned feeling too. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and gentle carbonation.
