No head and almost no carbonation. Clear copper body. Has a mixed berry aroma with grapes. Sweet flavor, like a gingerbread cookie without the bite and drizzled with caramel. I get the juniper at times too. A bit thin, with occasional alcoholic overtones. Intriguing, but not quite there. Though I’m typically a little sensitive to carbonation, this beer could have used a bit. Overall I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt that it’s perhaps been sitting around too long.

Has a nice forest/honey scent, but tastes quite interesting, sort of like honey, pine, and the juniper definitely comes through. Has a syrupy mouthfeel, not to sure what to make of this really.

Pours clear copper/amber no carbonation .... sweet aroma of malt and juniper ..... taste of sweet malt .... little syrupy and a berry taste the 7% is hidden well ... something different not really a pounder would def have again

3rd August 2008. No carbonation. Mild caramelly taste with a vague hint of something fruity underneath. Inoffensive but surprisingly bland!

Bottled. Nice clear copper, small beige head. Hint of banana syrupiness on the nose, wood and earth, some metal, mildly sahti-like. Good syrupy flavor, sweet and simple, some alcohol, juniper, solid bitterness and caramel. Slight cellar in the finish when warmer. Almost full bodied, lush and a bit oily palate. Warming and caramelly.

Clear red/brown color with no head. Aroma: Bread, fruit, yeast and juniper. Taste: Very fruity, juniper is not very present. Clearly has some of the characteristics from sahti. Low carbonation. A little to sweet to me, but still a pretty good beer.

Bottle. Pours muddy brownish body with an orange tint, no head. Sweet aroma of berries, barnyard and some caramel. Semi-sweet/malty flavor. Again, some berries and sweet banana malts. No carbonation. Slight and I mean slight little bitter kick finish. I didn’t detect any juniper in this beer. Not so bad.

330 ml bottle. Finland. Clear reddish copper colour with almost no head. Sweet aroma with sherry and some spices. Quite sweet flavour with some notes of berries and alcohol. Unusual brew.

7/23/2009: Kataja Olut smells like freshly baked banana bread with walnuts. It pours a shiny golden honey color and has a minimal level of carbonation. It tastes moderately sweet and like doughy banana bread along with some caramelized malt and a faint hint of spruce/juniper. It is medium-bodied and feels smooth and mellow in the mouth. Overall this particular offering embodies the descriptive characteristics of a traditional Finnish Sahti and is quite excellent.

11.2 fl. oz. bottle (7% alc./vol.) shared by ShareANevada [BA]. Rating #231 for this sahti.
