Biscuity pilsner malt aroma with honey and fruit—maybe pears. Flavor of honey, citrus, alcohol heat, with decent hop bitterness at the finish. Ok, but too sweet and thick for a tripel.

They certainly didn’t market the bottle, so would the beer do the talking? Good start with a pumping froth and an amber tangerine liquid bubbling. Good first tastes of licquorice and floridity with a decent aftertaste but it really didn’t last, which was a shame. Average in the end MoritzF (5029), Bochum, Germany
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2009 (33cl bottle) Hazy, golden colur with a big but non-persistent frothy white head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of candied fruits, nutmeg and other spices. Bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Solid malt-accented taste, minimal sugary with mild notes of lemon and a rising peppery spicy touch towards the yeasty-bitter and shy hoppy finish (26.IV.09). mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Bottle a few months past best before date. Pours a hazy orange with large head. Light aroma of sugar, candied fruit and spices. Tastes crisp and well-carbonated, citrusy, slightly sweet, spicy-peppery, just a note of leather and funk. My bottle was nowhere near as sweet as described by others, probably because of the aging. Will have to try again fresh. Very nice funky tripel when aged. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 1, 2009 In short: A messy sweet Belgian Strong Ale of some kind. Tasty but not cohesive
How: Bottle 330ml, about 1 year old, still before best-before date
The look: Almost clear dark golden body topped by a large beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose of peppery hops over campfire wood, intriguing. Taste is disappointing. Very sweet and the hops add a lot of spiciness to the beer and only a light bitterness or dryness. Alcohol slightly apparent. Ripe sweet apricots, ripe sweet red apples, citrus. More acidic than it should be. Finish is a biting alcoholised spicy bitterness followed by an annoying comeback of overripe sweet fruite. Certainly not bland this is rather tasty but unfortunately quite messy too, like each individual flavour elements work against each other. Don’t expect a classic Tripels here, this is a strong Belgian Ale of some kind. Gets some points for being tasty and entertaining but loses even more for being not cohesive. Amoral? I don’t know, but certainly reprehensible.
