Thick and chewy body with bready malt characteristics. Some alcohol out front, which was a bit of a detractor. cazort (419), Newark, Delaware, USA

A bit sour tasting, which unfortunately diminshed my enjoyment of this otherwise good brew. Another complaint is that there is not enough body to balance the fairly busy aroma, which makes this one taste a bit thin. Too alcoholic relative to the lack of flavor. It was your standard doppelbock, but had a nice aftertaste. surprised they had it in july since it says its a winter seasonal on here. dolemike1 (1129), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA

Clear, dark brown, minimal white head, decent malty aroma, starts out lightly sweet, some caramel malt, but quickly dissipates into an odd flavor that i would describe as burnt toast dipped in water. Not impressed. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2004 Sample at the brewpub. Clear dark walnut, lasting ring of orangish head. On cask. Grapy-caramel nose, sweet but robust. Amaretto-cherry-caramel on the tongue, extremely smooth and sweet without being cloying. One of Lancaster’s best. warrior (213), Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 9, 2004 Med brown color with a small head, the thick body is evident when swirling the beer in the glass. Rich malty aroma with some alcohol evident. Rich malty flavors thick body and some alcohol in the taste but well balanced with the thick body and malt sweetness. A very well made Doppelbock that I will enjoy again. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA

A extremely deep cranberry color with clean white head. Spicy aroma. Kind of a raisin taste with a orange/clove finish. Medium bodied. tidiaguy (168), Hawley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2004 Amber brown, small off white head settles quick. Nice malty sweet aroma. Slightly roasty/smoke scent. Flavors are rich sweet and malty. Very simple straight forward flavor lacks any complexity. Very rich full mouth feel. Not bad by any means just needs a little something extra.
