Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Very dark with thin, off-white/tan head. Smells like roasted something, strong sense of malt, smell/taste suggests coffee, but not overly so. Light body compared with most stouts that I have had. Sweet without being too sweet.

This beer pours with a thick off-white head that slowly disappears as you drink it. The aroma is of roasted grains with hints of chocolate. The first thing I notice upon tasting is what seems to be high carbonation.....not really to my liking especially in a stout. The flavor is good...tastes like roasted grains and coffee, but is not very bitter with the added lactose giving sweetness to the end of the flavor. This has a heavy body and seems very filling. I’d drink another one or two......

Smells a little sour. Thin head but not too bad for a stout. Very rich in color. Has a slight cappuccino taste to it., more milky than the usual coffee taste must be the lactose! Very smooth but slightly fizzy. Yes, definitely a malty milkshake(but thin, wish it was thicker) with espresso thrown in. Very good.

Thanks to DIM for this one Bottle poured pitch black body topped of with tan head. Good head retention lasted the whole time I drank the beer Aromas of sweet chocolate malt fill your head Tastes about the same as the nose but with a slight coffee bitter finish The mouthfeel is just how I like my stouts smooth and creamy almost thick Really drinkable truly a fine brew for its style . I’ll agree that it was like a malted milk shake. a must try in my book

Deep black with a tan head. Sweet roasted flavor that’s a great example of old sweet style stout.

Bottle: poured a very rich looking almost black color with a very quickly dissipating light brown head. Aroma is of a very dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and coffee. Flavor is a great match for aroma. Lots of chocolate goes down smooth and leaves you wanting more.

aroma is bombarded with toffee notes, color is black with no regrets, slight redish on the sides, flavor, bit on the roasty side with a creamy undertone. Palate wise the roasty flavor goes a long long way though everything else dies away quite fast. Overall, not bad... not bad at all... bartender may I have another?

Beautiful. This was a marvelous stout. It has a subtle, but sweet aroma with hints of a roasty coffee. It’s appearance is chocolate in color, brown for sure. It’s flavor is decadent with a creamy, malty, coffee like majesty, not to mention some chocalate in there too. It’s also suprisingly smooth! Overall, this is a rare gem. I’d gladly have another, and another, and another
