Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Aug 2005 - Beer poured dark brown with a nice reddish brown head. Aroma and taste was of dark roasted malt with some coffee and a touch of chocolate. Nice depth of flavor and complexity. Not as sweet as some others. Something wild or funky in the aftertaste that I can’t place and not sure if I like...like a mild metally taste. Will try again.

Bottle Black pour with nice head. Aroma of milkiness and some malt. Flavor follows accordingly. Smooth. Pretty good beer.

On draft at the Brewpup. Flavor was pretty on; as was the color. Dark black with tannish head. Aroma of chocolate and milky sweetness. Flavor was similar with some general roastedness; palate was a little off. Fairly thin and watery for the style.

12 oz bottle from LBC...pours black, minimal dark tan head...smell of rich milk chocolate, coffee...creamy taste of dark chocolate and roasted coffee bean...medium mouthfeel...bit of carbonation out of the bottle, not bad...one of my favorites...awesome on tap.

Dark cream coloured head, black colour. Light carbonation grips the side of the glass. Some aroma of toasted malt comes through as the beer loses it’s chill. Slightly bitter taste but quite smooth and silky. Would be much better without the slight carbonation. A bit heavy on the finish.

if found it fair of flavor and and fond of body. a bit astringent and too much so. the body is thin and the refreshment is meager. the bitter finish seems to be in the wrong beer. carbonation is ok. points for being different, but will then need some getting used to.

Poured a dark brown colour with a creamy frothy large tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate, metallic notes, and roasty. Initial taste is coffee overlaying the milk chocolate. Finishing hops on the palate. Long lasting head. Fabolous sweet stout.

Bottle. Opaque black with a medium and lasting head. Aroma is graham crackers, milk chocolate, smoky molasses and metallic hops. Flavor is chocolate molasses on front, with toasted marshmallow, smoky coffee, some lactic acid sourness, and a bit of metallic and peppery hops coming in later. Palate is smooth and medium-heavy bodied.
