Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

12oz bottle. Opaque brown hue with a spiraling beige head. Sweet creamy nose. Smooth malty aromas. Medium bodied with medium effervescence. Bready toasty malt flavor. Fruity undertones wrapped in a mild chocolate flavor. milky vanilla creamy malts. Easy stout with slight acidity and mild bitterness. Not bad.

Bottle. Dark chocolate, coffee grounds and lighter cream in the nose, good dark smoky aroma. Flavor not so good, ok, but not good. Moderately thin, watery at times, some vegetable notes in there with the lactic flavors. Chocolate and licorice but this isn’t a really big beer so the weird veggie and milk flavors don’t work so well.

Poured a clear very very dark brown with an over-sized tan head. Mildly roasted aroma with a light sweetness. Lightly tart roasted flavor. Light bodied.

Pours very dark, opaque brown with a slight ruby-hue, and a large light brown head. Semi-sweet lactic aroma, with nice undertone of coffee grounds. Flavor is mostly lightly bitter coffee and hops, with a bit of lactic sweetness, and a slight metallic undertone. Palate is dry, and thinner than expected. Falls a bit short for the style, but still a pretty decent stout.

Tasted from bottle. I had high hopes for this beer, but it fell short. Dry and bitter, with less mouthfeel than anticipated.

(Rating #908)

A dry coffeeish stout with a long lactose finish. Good bubbly head. Bitter aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel. Coffee aroma. Understated carbonation. Overall servicavble and satisfying but really not a great taste, and I didn’t want MOOre of it.
