Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

A mild aroma with a nice hint of coffee. Does not have bitter stout aftertaste. Overall, creamy texture and soft carbonation make it an easy beer to drink.

I didn’t find much going on here. I guess I expected a lot more. I’m glad I gave it a shotbut won’t try it again except on tap.

I’ve only had this on tap. Rumor up here has it that the bottled versions are very sub-par. I’ve never had a bad draft. Too bad bottled type is "not fresh".

Bottle - Been eyeing this one for a while, finally decided to try it. I was sorry I bought a whole six pack of this as I will likely dump the remaining five bottles in the yard... Body was watery thin & my tongue was almost instantly attacked by a serious carbonated astringensy that pretty much blocked all hope of tasting anything else but the strong lactic acid that actually gave me a stomach ache within ten minutes or so. I don’t know if I will ever revisit this one. Quite disapointed...

i remember this being exceptional on draft...but then again, that was years ago and my palate was still very new to good beer. the color is extremely dark, but not the pitch black ive been seeing from other stouts lately like bells, thirsty dog, etc. zero head, even with an aggressive pour. mouthfeel was pretty thin, much thinner than i would want out of a stout. flavor was almost as thin...a bit of sweetness and the smallest note of roastiness...but so little its barely worth talking about. personally, this isnt a great stout...not even a decent porter. way too light overall.

I haven’t had any other sweet stout style beers to date so this one was new to me. Pours black, foamy tan head. Hints of chocolate and cream with a bitter coffee finish. Great full body. Pretty unique. Tried it in a sample pack. Will probably have again.

Pours a jet black with a big fluffy light brown head. Something metallic in the nose which was probably the glass, but once you get past that you get a little milk chocolate, but not much. The taste was very underwhelming, although not terrible. Pretty boring though. Not a whole lot going on. Hints of chocolate and coffee but not a very deep taste. It just needs "something".

Bottle. Lightly sweet aroma of strong roasted malt, strong chocolate, and lactose. Very dark black-red pour with a medium-dark brown head, creamy and rocky and lacing. Initial taste zings with a very strong sourness, and the palate never really fully adjusts. Otherwise soft. Roast and chocolate are prominent here but struggle to best that sourness. Faint bitter herbal hops in the dry, powdery roast finish. Medium-full body and a slight nudge of stale alcohol brought on by the acidity. Extremely robust flavor, but this particular bottle wasn’t very stoutish (rather a sour ale).
