Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

As far as I’m concerned this is an average stout, and there are many superior ones out there. Poured a jet black with tan head. Pretty sweet chocolatey coffee flavoring. Good deep roasted malts. Aftertaste was pretty watery and not very lasting. On another note, the cask conditioned at the bar in Lancaster is much better than the bottle.

Pours deep brown to black, with a nice tan head. Excellent sweet, creamy, chocolatey stout flavor. Just a little watery in the taste and body, compared to some stouts, but overall very enjoyable.

Not a bad stout! Nice deep chocolaty flavour, though contrary to other reviews, I found this one a little on the overcarbonated side, with not quite enough body for the style. Still quite drinkable, but definatly lacking.

Very good beer with unique flavors. It pours beautifully with a white head and light brown lace that rests on the beer. Very smooth with a definite hint of sweetness.

A must have from the tap but still a great drink from the bottle. A creamy sweetness is a perfect match with the flavors of chocolate and the roasted malt. A stout that can be drank all day.

12 oz bottle: poured dark black with a medium sized tan head. aroma was of dark roast malt: coffeish, and slightly chocolatly. flavors are the samed, it seemed smother from the lactose and slightly creamy. bitterness was not lacking as I was thinking it would in a sweet stout. bitterness probably from dark malt and some hops, it didn’t seem to have a hop character. Palate was good and full. A decent stout.

Dark black color. Smell of peanuts, chocolate, malt, coffee and hops. Taste of roasted coffee, malt and a SOUR bitterness. Smelled a hell of a lot better than it tastes.
