Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

12 oz bottle-pours reddish black w/a meduim brown head which hangs around a while. Shows some carbination. Roasted, nutty, aroma. Malty, bitter, roasted coffee flavor. Some traces of chocolate. Has some hops to balance it out. Long bitter finish. Wouldn’t drink it all the time, but it’s a nice change of pace. great after dinner sipping bear.

Pours a beautiful black with a huge, lasting, creamy brown head. Certainly the best aspect of the beer. The aroma is metallic and slightly sour and rather unpleasant. In the mouth it is quite similar though is saved by slight roastiness as it warms. Way too lactic and metallic. I’m guessing there is a bit too much in the way of oats as their qualities seem out of control. I’m not sure if I had a bad bottle or what but this was quite crappy.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry -- courtesy of Thaichile. Pours a hazy dark brown with ruby hues and a large lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, roasted coffee and some lactic notes. Flavour’s slightly roasty with some mild coffee and milk chocolate. Light bodied. It didn’t blow me away or anything but it was somewhat unique and I enjoyed it.

Nice deep dark brown color and tannish head. Heavy aromas of chocolate and coffee. Sweet and creamy chocolate and coffee flavors with a nice touch of hops at the end.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, his bottle. Poured deep ruby-brown, huge tan head. Lactic, almost metallic roast nuttiness, some dark fruit an light hops. Taste is the same, more bitter finish. Mouthfeel is bitter, somewhat flat - not bad, not great.

Another nice stout to add to the collection. This one poured a very dark brown-black with a minor head and very little lacing. Aroma was coffee and chocolate with a burnt smell that you get after a campfire (charred wood). Flavor was somewhat sweet and chocolate/coffee-like, and finished with slight hoppy bitterness. Worth having again.

At the VA Beer Festival, Norfolk, VA. Black with a tan head. Light nose. Roasty malts and touches of coffee, chocolate and nuts. Sweet, with a creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good - will keep an eye out for more.
