Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Pours dark brown with a very thin filmy tan head. Smells of coffee, chocolate, soy sauce and some pepper. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and peppery. Finish is light coffee and chocolate.

12oz bottle-pours a big, rich light brown head. Color is black. Aroma is coffee, roasty malt. Taste is coffee, milky, smoke, roasty malt. Thick in the mouth. Nice, but not my style.

as a resident of Pennsylvania I take pride in the great brewers of this state, which include such greats as Victory and Troegs. I hope to see more such creations from this less recognized PA brewery. this Sweet Stout is brewed with lactose and is free of preservatives as the label assures you. upon opening i notice a distinct dark roasted coffee bean aroma. pours fairly thick, dark brown to black. generous tan/brown head, thick with fluffy, silky formations, lumps of fluff if you will. unique in appearance. bonus. flavor to match the aroma, with a bittersweet/sour aftertaste courtesy of the lactose. scores very high for uniqueness, again. in the palate it could be a little thicker, but the perfect constistency and amount of carbonation makes up for this after a second in the mouth. overall an excellent stout. i eagerly anticipate more such quality brews from Lancaster.

Lactic and roasty aromas combine with plenty of milk chocolate. Opaque brown body is topped by a large, fine bubbled, tan head that recedes to a generous cover with plenty of lacing. Roasty chocolate flavour is fairly sweet with some herbal hop and very mild bitterness. Medium body with lively carbonation. Sampled at the Kennett Square Brewfest 2005.

Very dark black pour with a minimal brownish head. Nose is sweet malts, twinge of coffee, and a general roastiness. Flavor is mocha-ish...roasty malts, almost sour in a way. Slightly creamy, mild carbonation...medium bodied I think. A nice mild stout.

On tap at Eulogy’s, Philadelphia, PA. Black hued stout having small diminishing tan head with spare lacing. No discernable carbonation. Light sweet malt and coffee aroma. Medium bodied that starts smooth with light sweet malt, coffee, and chocolate flavors. Finishes with lingering light bitterness. Nicely balanced. This is a tasty locally made stout. Warning: if you are lactose intolerant, you should definitely not consume large quantities of this lactose-laden beer!

Pours a bordeline blackish color with nice looking tan head. Aroma of cocoa, malt, and a nice roastiness. Flavor seems a bit dulled down, but still has a nice chocolate kick with a creamy delivery. Good to try, not something to buy.
