Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

On tap at the Lehigh Valley Brew Fest ’04. Poured a dark black color with a small off white head. Aroma and taste of roasted malts, chocolate and light coffee. Not a bad beer.

Bottle pours black with brown hues, small tan colored frothy head, with spotty lacing.   Semi sweet chocolate, cocoa, and roasted malts on the nose.   Somewhat chalky, flavors of prune, slight soy, bakers chocolate, and slightly sour.   Medium body, slightly thin mouthfeel.   Finishes slightly dry, some sourness, with roasted malts and unsweetened chocolate.   Not bad, could be sweeter, nothing compared to the likes of 8 Ball or Shakespeare.   Thanks goes out to slob for the trade!

This is my 100th.Maybe not a special beer but this was a gift from a Bud:Slikwily.Dark brown/black with a creamy dark foam.Nice roasted malt aroma, maybe a little fruitiness of some kind.Has almost a smoky flavor with just a thin body the flavors aren’t real standoutish.Still this would make a good "keep around the house"beer.

Opaque black with some ruby tont arount the edges. Fizzy tan head dissapates quicly but leaves a thin layer. Grapey, vinous nose has hints of chocolate malt. Thin bodied and quite carbonated. Not much flavor besides the roastiness mixing with the lactic acid, but that is what is expected. Actually refreshing. Gets fluffy and billowy as it warms and becomes more roasty and dry.

Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is of roasted malt. Taste is of chocolate, coffee and roastiness. Taste ends with a very unpleasant sourness/tart flavor. Not that sweet, mouthfeel is very thin and watery. This one didn’t agree with me at all. I see everyone else’s rating is higher so maybe I got a shitty bottle? Possible future re-rate.

Dark beer out of the bottle with a frothy tan head and a nose that reminded me of Cocoa Puffs cereal. Very smooth, creamy mouthfeel with flavors of milk chocolate and some roast coffee in the finish. Nice beer.

A pitch black beer with a small brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. The flavor is slightly sour with powerful notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee on a dry background.
