Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Opaque balck color with a moderate tan head that diminishes to a small lid of small bubbles. Dark, near burnt caramel aromas. Some hints of coffee as well. Quite light in feel with a touch of fizziness. Very dry caramel flavors with hints of violets. Mildly lactic and a bit salty in the finish. I see alot fo rates aout the sweetness of this one, but my bottle is rather devoid of this character. Still a decent lacto stout.

Dark brown to near black. Faint glimmer of mahogany around the edges. Medium dense brown head. Aroma is caramel, cocoa, dark fruits, and malt. The taste is mild coffee, and roasted malts mixed with a sort of sour milk flavor. This results in a semi-acidic mouthfeel. Some oily portions as well. The finish is a bit more sour with some mild sweetness coming through. Hints of cocoa or bittersweet chcolate and more milky notes. Maybe a slight nuttiness as well. Pretty good. I have to get used to the sourness though.

Draft: Deep ebony, edged with maple hues. Creamy mocha foam collar. Wonderful roasted barley aroma with yogurt-splashed raisins, black licorice, caramel, soy, and chalky black malts. Creamy mouthfeel. Tangy lactose is greeted by an onslaught of rich roasted malts and coffee. Dark chocolate backdrop slowly melds with the flavorsome roastiness, midway. Appropriately sweet for the style, yet with a flavorsome lactose assertion throughout which deepens the malt richness. Bits of acridness from the black malt continues to cause the lactose acidity to flare up as bittersweet chocolate teases the palate and offers more sweeteness to the flavor. Finishes with trace oxidation and roasted barley dryness, as sweet chocolate malt returns to balance the lactose alongside toffeed peanuts and creamed coffee. An all-out glorious rendition of such a rare style.

Deep dark color with a dense lasting tan head. Aroma is creamy and roasted. The flavor really brings a fresh roasted malt taste, a lot like eating raosted barley. Lactic acid is present but not overpowering: a good thing.

Sweet chocolate flavor. Mouthfeel is only slightly creamy. Very little roasted/coffee notes which I really enjoyed for a change. Very good.

A dark, creamy, fantastic sweet stout. There a cool and sweet hints of chocoalate in there, not too strong in the coffee hints, however. Delightful.

Pours deep mahogony/black. Medium sized tan fluffy head with decent lasting lace. Roasted with coffee and hop perfume in the front. Later on more of a lighter hop nose as it warms. Peppery body. Sweet and roasty. Earth. Berry tart. Smooth and nutty. Short lived moderately dry finish.
