Commercial Description:
We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

On Nitro. Poured a dark brown with a thick creamy tan head typical of beers on nitro. Flavor is a smooth, sweet, with hints of chocolate and caramel malts, nice finishing hops, and a creamy after taste. I prefer this beer not on nitro and the on tap version is better then the bottled version

Bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours a murky dark brown with a thin tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of chocolate, coffee, nuts, caramel, some hints of tobacco and cocoa. Flavor is roasted and malty with notes of chocolate, coffee, tobacco, some hints of vanilla, smoke and wood. Generally medium body with a pleasing roasted finish.

12oz bottle from trade with adamharbaugh. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is lots of lactose with some coffee, roastedness, some almonds, and more lactose. Flavor is some roast, lactose, cocoa, and a bit of bitter chocolate. I would like this more except for Left Hand Milk Stout. Finishes with diminishing bitter chocolate. Interesting milk stout...

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass: Very dark black. Large, brown head. Sweet roast notes on the aroma. First sip: I’m underwhelmed. Seems very thin. Chocolate notes, sweet, very short finish. Not a big fan of this one.

[Bottle] Pours dark cola brown with a small, dark tan head. Aroma is sweet, with a lot of chocolate, caramel, some vanilla, and roasted malt. Taste is very sweet up front, before transitioning to heavily roasted malt and chocolate. Very thin, with a good, long finish. Overall, this is a pretty nice beer, but the mouthfeel could stand to be a bit thicker (I’m not expecting impy stout range by any means, but I don’t care for watery), and i personally would like to see the heavily roasted malt toned down a touch.

Black in color...opaque. Very thick, creamy head. Heavy malt aroma, with slight coffee undertones. Sweet, creamy malt flavor up front...mouthfeel is a tad too crisp for the style. The taste of roasted malt glimmers through in the back...finish is pretty mild. Though not a bad brew by any means, the appearance and aroma left me expecting more than what was ultimately delivered.

Nothing spectacular here. Reminded me more of a dry/Irish stout than a sweet stout, but perhaps just me. Got a lot of roasted barley/coffeeish aromas, and something like watered-down coffee flavor. Not my mug of beer.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige nitro head. Light roasty aroma with a hint of sweetness. The flavor starts with roast and coffee, before giving way to a chocolate mousse sweetness. Coffee reappears long into the finish. Very nice.
