We are proud offer one of the few surviving examples of this traditional English style sweet stout. A bold, dark ale bursting with roasted barley dryness and mellowed by hints of chocolate and coffee.

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Dark brown/black pour with an ephemeral tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee. Maybe a little nutty. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is smooth burnt toast, hints of fruit, and coffee. Finish is relatively dry and coffee. Not getting much in the way of chocolate. However, I am enjoying it.

12 oz. bottle. Poured with a small brownish head. Dark, the color of Coke. Coffee smell was the first thing I noticed followed by some chocolate milk and chocolate covered cherry notes. Medium level of carbonation. Some initial sweetness on the palate with a hop bitterness that doesn’t seem to quite match up. Finishes dry. Mouthfeel is very light overall. Some fruit notes, sour milk, chocolate. This is a case where the nose doesn’t exactly follow the palate and it isn’t a good thing. Well put together, but overall it wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

Bottle 355 ml
Appearance: dark brown, charcoal hue. Medium light beige tanned head. Ring of lace.
Nose: Dark sauce , soy, roasted barley , molasses . Roasty blend with some alcohol. Decent depth.
Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied with lighter edges. Roasted barley, mineral metallic side. Fairly drinkable, but a bit flat at finish.-6+

12 oz. bottle. Nearly black pour, dark tan head that just barely stuck around. A descent amount of lacing throughout. Rather chocolatey aromas, some roast malt and coffee. Tastes of creamy chocolate with light roast malt and coffee. A little light bodied, but good medium body. Finish is some milky chocolate, but pretty mild. Drinkable and not a bad example at all.

Bottle: poured a very rich looking almost black color with a very quickly dissipating light brown head. Aroma and flavor is of a very dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and coffee. Thanks for the trade JB.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is some roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Flavor is about the same as the aroma. Some coffee with a slight roast. Everything seems muted though and you are waiting for something to jump out at you but nothing really does. Left Hand brewing has a much better offering.

I really enjoy sweet stouts and this is a good one. Aroma is roasted grain and chocolate. Palate is raspberry, cocoa, coffee. Appearance is very dark with a very dark tan head, no retention or lacing. Mouthfeel is super - oily, then gritty, finishes dry, it has a very rich feel. As it warms you get a nice warming oily mouthfeel before the end dryness. Thanks Zach8270 for the trade!

Bottle courtesy my buddy Ian. Pours a reddish black with a thick tan head. Roasted grain, lactose and a hints of cardboard. Taste is nice, lots of roasted grain, chocolate and coffee. Good medium body, no too thin. Very smooth and easy drinking, good call on this one Ian!
