The lingering aftertaste is a bit milky and lingers ike cold coffee. Only slightly sweet and mostly hop-heavy with a hint of alcohol on the buds.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 11/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Appearance was unremarkable. Smell was good.. of toffee and chocolate. Could definitely taste the lactose, which was also coupled by a little bit of earthiness... maybe the barley. Good, respectably priced stout. Pawola22 (778), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 12oz bottle brought back with me from my trip to Philly. Pours a very deep brown body with a finger-width, creamy, brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is sweet with rich chocolates, smooth hard roasts and coffee, and a light amount of sour dark fruits and lactose. Flavor is similar with a little more sourness that doesn’t take away from the rest of the sweet and smooth flavors. Rich chocolates, sweet roasts, some licorice, and a light herbal bitterness. Finishes malty and creamy with a hint of dryness and lingers for a good amount of time. Medium body. Overall, a pretty solid sweet stout. Smooth and creamy with lots of balanced roasts and chocolates. I like the slight bitterness at the end giving this another dimension. There is a light sourness that seems to fit well and blends with the other flavors. Nice. DeadGuyPerez (30), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Taste was of dark malts/black coffee. Creamy texture with a bitter finish. Tasty and satisfying. Norton (296), The Fan, Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Bottle. Smells like cooking chocolate... WOW! I found myself just sitting here huffing my glass. Crispy beige head crackles away within minutes. Nearly opaque black-brown liquid. Nice burnt chocolate chip cookie flavor. Enjoyable. An English style sweet stout. Both bold and dark.
An ale where you can taste the barley and hints of chocolate and coffee.
The first taste was like cough syrup! Then it settled in.
Taste the lactose! A funny beer, unique.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Draft at the Harrisburg restaurant. Dark brown, nearly black, with reddish tinges around the sides, and topped by a full though diminishing tan head, leaving loads of clinging lace on the way down. Aroma: soft, smooth and creamy, light suggestions of toffee, caramel and nuts. Taste: some fierce, though brief, bitterness up front, soon to fade. Malt is big and in command, but the lactose involved is not in the least bit shy, for it thoroughly controls the flavor all the way out. Slightly tart and acidic, but that creamy feel is on top, with a certain hoppy, fruity zing also attached. Body is medium, finish is not as full as I prefer, but probably just right for the style (I imagine them shooting this toward folks who don’t mind a dark beer, but despise "bitterness" and "aftertaste"). Pretty yummy, actually, a very nice rendition of the style. (I would imagine, since this is the first I’ve tried) Skeegle (499), Maryland, USA
