savnac (394), Palmer, Alaska, USA Oct 30, 2009 On tap @ Lancaster Brewing Harrisburg. Clear brown/amber with a light tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of caramel, bread and spicy hops. Mostly sweet flavor with a bit of bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation. Pretty good, the finish was a bit off. jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Oct 7, 2009 From a bottle poured a light brown color with a fair amount of head. Light malty flavor with a quick finish. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 1, 2009 12 oz - The WIne Source. Amber, thin white head. Light toasted caramel aromas with faint undercurrents of bread and earth. Balanced softly sweet caramel grains on a touch of back end earthed bitterness. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Decent, but really not much to it... joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2009 Nice looking pour - clear copper, medium thick tan head that dissipates. Aroma is dominated by earthy yeast, along with some dough, and underlying hops. Flavor is more robust than the average Oktoberfest which I like. Taste is mostly malt, but the finish has a decent hop bite. One of the better versions that I have had so far this year. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Sep 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours an average sized, frothy, off-white head. Clear, amber body. Big, malty, raisiny nose. Lots of dark fruit along with moist, chewy bread and some toast. Worth holding your nose over for a while. Big time malt flavor - dark fruit and chewy caramel. Medium body, lively carbonation. Little big of sugary residue on the tongue, but fairly dry overall. Overall a delicious beer...huge surprise. Don’t understand the overall low ratings for this. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Yeast-suspension in the amber/copper body, dark for an Oktoberfest beer. Sudsy beige head. Nose has some nice toast and form chocolate, subtle cookie dough and rich malt. Just an awesome nose! And, as J. says, one to enjoy for a long time. Taste is lightly tart, all the above flavors with some stale carbonation, but the big surprise here is the dryness. Cracker and faint scratchy pretzel with a little pepper in the finish. Medium body with layers of malt to sift through - very rich, very filling, very good. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 10, 2009 Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s 9/10/09
Aroma: Mostly malty aroma, caramel, some toasty grains, and just a bit of funky fruit
Appearance: A clear amber color, minimal head
Flavor: Malty sweet up-front, more bittersweet and funky in the later palate, and a little spice in the finish
Palate: Medium bodied beer, crisp mouthfeel, long duration
Overall Impression:
This was actually a pretty decent Oktoberfest, and I found that as it warmed just a touch the nose improved. At first it was lacking in complexity, but opened up a bit as it went from the fridge coolness to just cool. A nice beer.
Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2009 This poured an orange color with a white head. The aroma was mild and malty nothin special. Flavor was slightly malty, some nuts and sweetness.
