Commercial Description:
Old Sourpuss Gueuze, tart and complex Belgian ale. Deep amber in color, complex with a refreshingly dry finish. Blended in 1999, Old Sourpuss has been quietly waiting for its chance to get out and make some noise. We here at Lancaster Brewing have been holding it back, like over-protective parents, but if you love something, you have to let it go. So, we say "Go get 'em tiger."

Pours light tan. Aroma is wood, malty sweetness, and a hint of sour. Flavor is very woody with a good sweet malt backbone and a slight sourness underneath. This beer didnlt strike me as a gueuze but its was enjoyable.

Tap at Andy’s. Brown, no head, almost flat. Hazy. Gueuze aroma of mild funk and a little soured apple. As I sniff I do pick out the familiar characteristics that rimind me of several popular Gueuzes that I have had recently, only in small quantities. Flavor is politely sour, with a little bit of funky light malt. A little soured apples. This may become very good with some bottle conditioning and time. Rather refreshing and a decent effort from an amateur.

Thanks to Christian from Lancaster Brewing Company for bringing this to the Main Line Brew Fest, and thanks to Woody Chandler for sharing his growler with me. Turbid brown pour, with sour gueuzy aroma. Solid fruit, malt, and that sour finish. Nice complexity. This one is a relic. A good relic.

OK Jim, I tried this. Color was golden brown , lots of haze. Nose was yeast and sour. Oh! the taste was sour alright. Not as bad as others of the style, Jim would think this was a bit light.

This brew is attainable at the Walnut St. Grill. They told me that it is ages for a significant amount of time before let free intot the hand of the public, well I don’t think all that tlc is worth it. It is very tarty and the aroma and taste is like green apples. Its like apple cider on steriods.

Draught @ Brewery: Strong lemon/lime sour smell. A hint of malts too. Poured a cloudy/hazy/murky amber/ruby color. Spare, diminishing head. Spare lacing. Tasted like apple, cherry, and sour milk. Full body. Oily texture. Average carbination. Bitter finish. Harshly acidic and bitter. Sour Sour Sour. I did not like it, but it seemed like it was good for the style.

On tap at the 2004 Kennett Square BF. Poured a cloudy, hazy brown color with a small head. Aromas and tastes of sour, tart cherries. Nothing special.

Poured a hazy brown color with a tan head. Aroma was musty, barnyard, rather sweet and not tart like most attempts at lambics. Taste was dry cherry, astringent, lightly tart, but overall sour and watery. The brewers are calling this a gueuze, but it seems like they are trying to profit from a beer gone sour. And after talking to many people about this, including a brewer who was there 6 years ago, this is, in fact beer that was lost, gone sour, and now attempting to be marketed. Nasty shit.
