WS_Smiles (123), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 4, 2007 On draft at a Lancaster (Pa) Barnstomers game. This was a very good beer. Taste of Rye was absolutely present. Very hardy beer. It was well needed after a long day of "amish" country shopping with family on vaca. garcia2a (4), Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jun 4, 2008 So I picked this up from Capone’s the other day and decided to give it a try.
The beer poured a medium amber, clear, minute head with slight carbonation.
The bouquet has quite a bit of caramel malt with back notes of grains. The caramel tones really overpowered the rest of the bouquet. The taste is initially caramel, but the finish is of dry grains and bready yeast.
The body is on the heavier side of medium, as the taste really takes over the old buds. The beer also cloys a bit, but this really does not detract from the drinking.
This is a tasty beer that is good cold, but really workd well under English conditions. I plan to have more of this during the summer!
jjpm74 (2953), Connecticut, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle courtesy of beerman6686. Pours copper with a white creamy head. Smells of rye, spice, yeasty, some citrus, fruity. Tastes of rye, some sweet caramel, earthy, some bitterness. Nice spicy finish. I’m not sure why this has such low marks as it is a good beer. guzzler67 (1140), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jun 6, 2008 Deeper shade of amber with a small head and modest lacing. Subdued, caramel malt aroma with a hint of soft fruit easing its way in. The rye comes across as lightly toasted and grainy, but also serves as a crisp, dry palate cleanser. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Finish lingered and provided another touch of the rye flavor. LiebeBier (744), RIchmond, Virginia, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle - Amber colored beer with white head. Caramel malty aroma. The flavor is quite creamy with rye and malt flavor. It reminds me of a British bitter.
