Sweet spicy nose, a little rye, sure, but tons of spice I’d expect to find in a pumpkin beer (+vanilla). Amber pour still translucent, creamy and, yes, lacing beige head. Taste is much drier and bitterer than expected, a little harsh grain with some strange raspberry and blueberry notes. Touches of orange peel and pepper. Vial of liquid yeast in the finish along with some spruce. Medium-full carbonation ind a medium-full and slightly metallic body. Left sort of a dirty impression, but could be fine substitution for a summertime Wit.

Flavors of rye, caramel, coriander, and slight cheddar. Buttery mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Good stuff. jredmond (1056), New Jersey, USA

| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Sep 17, 2009 12oz bottle thanks to my buddy ben4321. Orangish-amber color with a small, quickly dissipating off-white head. Aroma is rye bread, butter, and corn. Flavor is some rye, caramel malt, and grain, along with an overwhelming buttery diacetyl flavor that sort of kills it. Wouldn’t be too bad without that, not that it would really be that exciting either. Body is fairly watery and thin and it has a weird butteriness to the mouthfeel as well. Overall, not so good. beachbum25 (800), Powellville, Maryland, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Sep 6, 2009 12 oz bottle-amber color w/almost no head. Sour bread dough aroma. Flavors of sour/bad bread w/some rye, bad fruit... this just isn’t very good. Tasted like sour bread. I’ve had beer in bars which tasted like this...usually Yuengling in a crappy bar which doesn’t keep their tap lines clean, I always get the hell out of a place which serves beer like this, as I will in this case... this is drainpour! The smell was pretty hard to handle, but when I thought "rye" or "sourdough" and then smelled it again it seemed fitting, thus I gave it a good score for smell as it is rye and smells like such. The flavors were not nearly as awful as some reviewers made them out to be. However, I could only handle 1/4 of this. I didn’t taste any metals, bananas, or think it was too sweet, but I did feel like I was taking a gulp of sourdough with each swallow, which is something I hope to avoid doing in the future. This is my first rye beer, but I can’t imagine they are all this bad. My stomach is currently upset and I believe the beer is solely to blame. roder60 (1030), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Poured a clear copper color with big foamy white head. Aroma is corn, metal, banana, and dough. Flavor is really syrupy sweet, almost like bananas coated in brown sugar. Slight cinnamon spice in the finish. Overall, way too sweet for my tastes. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a deep copper color, with a small white head. Aromas of caramel come through in the nose, balanced by just a touch of west coast hops (cascade?). The palate is complimentary as both a summer refresher, as well as in general as a year-round beer. Notes of malt and caramel/toffee come through, with a dry and slightly bitter finish. Underrated.
