biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle from an old BOTM club. Very sweet and syrupy, as these things often are. Too sweet. Didn’t resemble beer enough. Didn’t finish it. Too sweet. ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Oct 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber orange color with a short lived creamy white head. The aroma is mild strawberry and wheat malt. Light bodied with a fine mild carbonation, that is smooth. The flavor is wheat and light berries with a gentle hop bitterness. Not too overly fruity.
JediMindTricks (240), Hampton, Virginia, USA Oct 19, 2009 From Bottle.... First smell was good, Strawberry smell very strong. During drinking I couldn’t really taste the strawberry’s at all, the wheat was def. the overpowering flavor. The beer did go down smooth. Gorosaurus (10), Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2009 The ’subtle’ suggestion that the description mentions is actually pretty far from the mark. The aroma itself is very strongly strawberry influenced, and the flavor is so thick with it that you will find yourself trying to sift the seeds through your teeth (there are none, of course)!
It is a fairly light beverage as a whole, but that works to its advantage. This is a brew that will appeal to non-beer-drinkers and brewheads alike. It is not TOO intensely fruity to turn off the beer snobs, and it is so refreshly different from any other brews that newbies are bound to love it.
I speak from experience. The Strawberry Wheat is the first beer I ever truly enjoyed, and opened my eyes to the entire world of craft brewing. That’s not to say that it is the finest brew ever constructed, but it does what it does darn well.
I don’t think this is a beer to win competitions. Just a beer to win new people.
roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2009 Pours a clear dark orange with small amount of fizzy white head. Aroma is very light but what is there reminds me of a strawberry daquari (sp?). Flavor is actually decent, especially compared to a lot of fruit beers. Medium mouthfeel flavor of course dominated by strawberries, but with a bit of creaminess, and a bit of watery lager taste. Reminds me in a way of a creamcicle. Strawberry flavor definitely a added extract and not the real thing. Worth a try though. FarFromHome (82), Philadelphia, Alabama, USA Aug 7, 2009 Some time ago I went to a beer tasting, and I kept going back to the Lancaster table to get some more of this beer. It was great off the tap. The bottles aren’t quite as good. Nice straw color, slightly bitter aroma. Soapy aftertaste is the only thing going against it - the flavor is of strawberries (the frozen kinds you get on ice cream, not the fresh kind) and a slightly musty standard witbier. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Aug 5, 2009 The first fruit beer of the day that tasted like fruit and not cough syrup. Wheaty with some strawberry. A bit artificial but not over the top. Light and refreshing. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Aug 4, 2009
Pouring at their booth at BCTC as ‘strawberry wit’, probably to play up the Belgian angle a little more. Pours an the color of cheap brandy, an empty light brown with a thin white head. Smells like marshmallows and cotton candy. What the hell? Thin to medium bodied, with flavors akin to the aromas. Puzzling and weird. Finishes with a light strawberry flavor. I was quite glad I had such a small amount of this one. My partner had about half a glass and promptly went “ugh, I don’t think I should have drank that”, and proceeded to go to our tent and lie down for an hour. Way to ruin a fun time Lancaster.
