| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 8, 2009 I had an opportuntiy to try this on tap at the Lancater Brewing Co in Harrishurg.
I tried many beers there over the weekend I was in town. This was by far my favorite.
Appearance was a see through black/brown, wasn’t too sure at first look. Only a little foam which quickly dissipated.
Smell was a malty, toasty with maybe a hint of smoke.
Taste started a nice toasty malt with some caramel, and a hint of fruit. The alcohol takes over in the middle providing some warmth which is quickly taken over by a relatively (for an ale) crisp finish.
I really enjoyed this beer, and found it highly drinkable for a higher alcohol beer. ben4321 (1042), Rockville, Maryland, USA

A nice beer, pretty strong, and some of the ABV comes with a bit of an alcohol burn. Nice balanced flavor that leaned toward the malty side. A pretty solid brew. Adam77 (409), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 1/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2009 Extremely dark brown color...opaque. Very thick, creamy head. Sweet malt aroma, with notes of caramel and fruit. Front is composed of a basic malt richness...crisp mouthfeel. Bold flavors of fruit mix with a malty sweetness in the back. Finish is mild, with a nice concealment of the ABV. Though this brew is just a tad too crisp, its unique abundance of flavor still allows for a very enjoyable experience...well done. crazyvin (1254), New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2009 Poured a dark brown hue with red highlights. A bone color had that had very little retention. Aroma was of heavy sweet malt notes but still a clear mix of dried fruits, caramel and a vanilla note. Flavor was also rather sweet initially of dried fruits but a mix of caramel and spices balanced it out. Alcohol was present as well as a mold hop bite, which i think need more bite. Body was full and carbonation was slightly elevated but did not hurt the beer much. Still nice. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Pour is a dark red with no head at all. Aroma is very sweet with some molasses and toffee. Flavor is lots of dark fruit following up again with the sweetness. Finish is very thick and cloying with the alcohol making an appearance especially as this gets warmer. Glad i got to try it but probably don’t want another. Parrothead (187), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 30, 2009 On tap at Doc’s. Dark ruby, almost mahogany with a nice thick tan head that stood. Rich, creamy, malty, but just enough hops to offset. Good stuff - only had one, because at 9%ABV I’m afraid I’d have to walk home.
