Commercial Description:
Our classic Olde Ale redefines the term "bull-bodied" with its deliverance of complex and firm malt flavor. A fine blend of British and American hops provides an even bitterness as this beer finishes with a warming alcohol flavor.

Dark brown coloured body with crimson highlights and a super-thin off-white head. Aroma of water, malt, light coffee and some nuts noticeable. Medium-bodied; Stronger taste of roasted malt, caramel, toffee and a little bitterness. Aftertaste remains strong, only a bit of malt and caramel present. Overall, a decent beer - lacking for a winter in my mind...but good to try; Especially in the first days of Summer! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors on 23-June-2005 at Jon(R888710)’s.

Poured a cloudy dark brown with little head. There were some very sweet, caramelly, malty aromas. The flavor was rich, malty, chocolaty, caramelly, with almost no hops. Slight medicinal notes, but not overwhelming. Very close to a porter. Very nice.

This poured dark brown in color with a moderate head off-white head. The nose had powerful aromas of fig, rich malt, caramel, chocolate and spice. In the mouth it was medium-bodied yet concentrated with a smooth and rich midpalate that is balanced by fine carbonation. There is a touch of alcoholic heat at the end but it is not distracting at all.

Pleasantly surprised with this tasty Winter Warmer. Pours a ebony brown color. Forms a solid 2" creamy and thick light tan head with superb retention. Thick rings of lacing adhere to the sides of the glass. Rich and fruity aromas of raisins, figs, dates, molasses and brown sugar are noted upfront with some faint notes of coffee and caramel. Full and thick mouthfeel; very smooth and creamy. Flavor profile is predominantly sweet with lots of dark dried fruit, balck licorice, molasses and burnt caramel candies. Just a touch of hop bitterness and well hidden alcohol emerge to tame the sugary sweetness. For $8.99 per sixer from Stateline in MD this is a great value big winter ale.

Bottle. Pours with a brown color and smallish head. Aromas of caramel and toffee. Flavors of dark fruit, caramel and nuts with a small hint of spices. A bit boozy especially when it warms up but quite smooth with a nice finish.

I thought this was a phenomenal winter ale. It was strong and sweet but not too much.

12 oz bottle-mohogany colored w/almost no head but good lacing which lasted thru the brew. Deep malt aroma. Strong roasted malt flavor w/toffee, caramel, figs, raisens & nuts. Very much like an ESB. Pretty easy to drink & alcohol was well hidden; had no Idea it was this high until I went to enter the rating. Long bitter finish; pretty good stuff.

From a bottle poured brown with a fair amount of head. Nice malty hoppy flavor with a quick finish.
