Commercial Description:
Our classic Olde Ale redefines the term "bull-bodied" with its deliverance of complex and firm malt flavor. A fine blend of British and American hops provides an even bitterness as this beer finishes with a warming alcohol flavor.

THOUGHTS: Not bad, but just doesn’t seem like much of an old ale. Seems a little bockish. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark brownish orange with a small, fizzy, off-white head that fully diminished. ( You could hear the head snap crackle and pop as it went away) The aroma was moderate to heavy malt with some port wine, brown sugar and sour fruit. (It smelled a little like Samichlaus.) The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately acidic, while the finish was moderately sweet and acidic and sour with and average duration. The flavor was malty with brown sugar and maybe some spices. The medium body was oily and a little syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a lightly astringent and lightly alcoholic finish.

Pours a deep amber with some reddish hues. A 1-finger beige head that lasted for a few seconds. Nose of brown sugar, banana, cherries, and plum with a hint of alcohol. Flavor has a lot of bite. A sour cherry flavor with a lot of caramel and toffee sweetness. The cherries linger leaving a sort of sour bitterness at the end with a pretty evident alcohol.

malty somewhat hoppy aroma from his brownish body topped with a small tan head. The flavor has a lot of malt with a ton of metallic extras.

Bottle. Pours mahogany w/ a medium head that does not last. Aroma is caramel and those little banana pieces from runts. Taste is smooth and very sweet. Hop taste is absolutely missing. This is pretty good.

Mahogany appearance with a small, off white head and modest lacing. Caramel malt aroma with a hint of molassas. Sweetish, malty taste accented by fruity, berry-like flavors; some spice lingers in the background. Enough hops to prevent it from becoming too cloying. Medium bodied, moderately hopped mouthfeel with a mid length lasting finish. Surprised by the abv.

Bottle: Ruby red and shiny. Thin but standing head. Caramel aroma. Easy to drink, smooth and mellow. Bit of a toasty, sweet thing going on. But the chewy caramel rules. (#3272, 1/5/2008)

Whew! This years batch is a bit rough huh? Tastes like I’m drinking straight molasses. Super syrupy and sweet with no balance or depth of character. I loved the past few years though. In fact, I cracked a 2005 just a few weeks ago and it was marvelous. But this one, I’ll skip.

This is a good winter style brew. Nice and dark brown with a small head. Had a smooth caramel flavor that had slight bitterness to finish. Alcohol was very nicely masked, but evident.
