Dickinsonbeer (3281), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jun 17, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep amber brown and a foamy overcarbed head- with little lace. Aroma is cardboardy oxidized, light stale vanilla hints, light toast and dry nuttyness, salty stale crackers, ligth olive brine, and slight infection. Carbonation explodes in mouth- infection- toffee, ash, vanilla, light roast and nuttiness, stale oxidized malts, marshmallow, and a leathery earthy note in the end. Finish is a bit abrupt and slick. meh Beerman125 (14), , New York, USA Apr 19, 2009 Being partial to vanilla, this beer is a big hit with me. The vanilla aroma hits you immediately and is prominent in your mouth. This is a great beer to savor and won’t break the bank when you stock-up. Maverick34 (637), New York, USA Feb 27, 2009 draft at blind tiger. Dark amber. caramelly with the vanilla kicking at the end. Not too special. blipp (1407), Grand Island, New York, USA Jan 25, 2009 Bottle. Pours brown with a billowing beige head. Malty sweet aroma with a touch of vanilla. The flavor has a more pronounced roasted and chocolate notes, with vanilla and a slight metallic edge. Not bad. JoeMcPhee (4544), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jan 3, 2009 Tap at Ginger Man. Brown beer with a thin head. Nose is loaded with vanilla and swet caramel. A softly cocoaish aroma along the back. It’s pretty one dimensional and a bit too sweet, but I do like the vanilla quite a bit. Softly malty and sweet but it’s not cloying. puzzl (2339), New York, New York, USA Jan 2, 2009 Tap at the Blind Tiger. The vanilla in this was unmistakable, however the beer offered little else of interest. A decent body with a bit of sweet, nutty malts present, and a slight hint of cocoa and hops in the aroma. The vanilla was a bit too strong to keep this easy drinking, and it had a harsh carbonation in tow. Rciesla (2800), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 31, 2008 Draft at BT. Pours a ruby brown body with a tan head. Immediate chocolate, lightly toasty, the vanilla seems drown out a bit. Kinda reminiscent of a root beer float. Sweet unattenuated sugars, very light on your palate. Not great. probstk (851), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Oct 7, 2008 12 fl. oz. bottle from BOTW (Rochester), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. AU29.08.
App.: Clear, deep ruby with a rim of light tan.
Aroma: Some brown sugar and molasses, dark dried fruits, a bit of vanilla, light milk chocolate, rich, warm and inviting.
Palate: Medium-light body and fairly soft carbonation.
Flav.: More vanilla than the nose, light milk chocolate, a touch nutty, some brown sugar; dry, basically no bitterness with a rather abrupt, weak finish.
Great concept, weak execution.
