2007. Dark beer that smells like trees. as it warmed the tree smell mellowed and tasted less like a tree and more like a beer being consumed in a forest. A chocolate flavor emerged as it warmed. They didn’t go crazy trying to add too many competing flavors, and did try for something original. Perhaps a bit of coriander would have assisted the mid-palate.

2007 edition in the bottle from 99 Bottles in Federal Way WA. Pours an extremely dark brown to almost black with a very thin and hardly present off white head. Some roastedness to the aroma, but not much otherwise. Good mouthfeel, as it warms, I get a pleasant burst of milk chocolate. This is like Our Special Ale, if Anchor put not spices in the beer. Still, I get a mild bit of pine and juniper to the flavor. OK, but not great.

Earthy malt flavor, nutty, kinda tastes like dirt at times. Metallic note to the finish. Pours dark mahogany/brown with a tall off-white head. Some spices to the nose. Flavor hints at berries at times an dry cinnamon towards the end. Watery on the palate.

Courtesy of Degarth, thanks. Pours a nice deep clear copper with tan head and decent lacing. The aroma is pretty bold yet I’m having a tough time describing it. I seem to get non sweet pale malts mixed with blackberry compote and mild grapefruit to pine hops. The taste is similar starting with roasty malts and then a nice pulse of pine hop bitterness. Those flavors intermingle with some sweet dark fruitiness creating a pleasant taste.

Received a 12-oz bottle via trade with 5000. Pours a semi-hazy dark copper brew with a thin, creamy beige head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of mostly roasted caramel malt, a touch of cheery, citrus and some toffee. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of caramel/toffee character, some sour apple, tart berries and a touch of citrus. Finish has a slight iced tea aftertaste with a lingering mild hop bitterness. Quite nice!

From a 12-oz. bottle purchased at By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a thin, dark black body with a small brown head. Nose of caramel malts and sticky hops. Dark fruit flavors, floral, and delicious. Body was a little watery as was finish, but overall, a nice brew!
