Was the first I have tried so far and it isn’t my favorite. Nice amber color. Pretty lacings, but the taste is boring and not very enjoyable. kbjames (242), Utah, USA

It was free to me so I didn’t say no, but it was nothing worth buying so perhaps that is why. Copper in color and decent taste but nothing memorable. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA

Brown color with a thin tan head, it has a nutty malt aroma. A creamy mouth-feel with a spicy finish. Not a bad brew from my beer club.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 17, 2004 Updated: Aug 18, 2004bottle 22 oz. Mostly clear brown with fair straw head that fell quick. Aroma is nutty, earthy, mildewy with a bit of a hop spice. Flavor has this, in my opinion, rather different, nutty, mildewy taste that is a bit spicey and sharp. (I'd guess there's Belgian yeast in here). It is delivered however on a rather low end of medium body overall. I didn’t much care for it, but I think it would be easy to develop a taste for it. I also had it on tap which was a lot smoother and better balanced but too light bodied for me. (then again most ambers are). ...... I got to visit the brewery and it is literally in the middle of nowhere in western Montana. I hope to attend their open house (which reportedly includes eats) in July next year. The setting alone will be worth the trip. FROTHINGSLOSH (2038), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a slightly hazy medium brown color with a small tan head. The appearance was rather disturbing since the beer is labeled as an amber, but it is nice looking none the less. The aroma is mild and has elements of malt and nut. The flavor is malty, almost smoky and there is a faint sour tang in the finish. Not bad, but this really is in all ways a basic English brown ale not an amber. Very tasty but not as good as the Medocino Red Tail. Don’t get me wrong this is a very good amber. Just doesn’t have the big Amber flavor of Mendocino. Still a very good beer. Thanks to Slikwily for this bottle to sample. PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 15, 2004 Amber with a thin white head. Aroma was light but had caramel and floral notes. Spicy hop flavor dominated throughout there was a hint of some malt and nuttiness.
