JorisPPattyn (4275), Antwerpen, Belgium Nov 2, 2006 Small brownish, slightly irregular head over fully hazy brown beer with reddish highlights. Nutty nose, mixed with portwine, sherry, crème de noix, and woodstainer. But all that is very volatile, and in the end, only dark malts, including chocolate malt remain. Dry, woody taste, cardboard (the beer is one year past its BBD, but it strangely has no outspoken oxydation, sorry). Malt, but a bit doughy, dried-out milkchocolate, bay leaf, hint of weak coffee. Surprisingly light body, nearly watery. I do not know what Per and Josh tasted. I get no raspberry whatsoever, but more important, whatever this is, it is not infected. Thanks to an American travelling through Germany and Belgium, bringing me this French beer made by a Fleming... Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 24, 2003 Cloudy brownish amber (I know that's exactly what Per said but it's true). Funky, shit-like aroma. Like an hour-old cow patty in a field of grass on a misty morning. Some rustic tangerine and raspberry esters in there, too. Tart body, with dusty notes like licking the walls of a stone toolshed. Metallic finish. Unique, I'll say that, but it seems as though this is the intended character - if Per's tasted much the same and they were purchased at the same time, I would expect if this were an infection that mine would be totally undrinkable. But since it tastes pretty much the way he described I have to think that's what the brewery was aiming for. They're nuts. omhper (10438), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 4, 2003 Bottled. Brownish amber, cloudy. Strong yeasty, funky aroma. Dry and cellary with notes of toffee and rather clean mouthfeel. Some raspberries in a finsih otherwise dominated by cellar flavours. Discrete and complex, and very odd.
