| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2009 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Beautiful, clear copper ale with a large, fluffy, off-white head that slowly diminishes to a small, tight crown. The biscuity, malty nose proffers light chocolate and caramel notes. Full-bodied and chewy with moderate carbonation. Lots of delicious, gooey caramel and a dab of milk chocolate. My kind of beer – malty as hell, but generously bittered. Malty, hearty finish with lingering bitterness. Reminiscent of Lake Tahoe Red Ale; a beer that really rang my bell back when it was brewed, circa 2002. Bottle provided by ygtbsm94! ante (2969), Stockholm, Sweden

Been wanting to try this beer since I joined RateBeer. Pours a very striking fiery copper, big offwhite head that cakes and laces well, dies to a moderate layer, very light haze. Aromas are toasty malts, caramel and biscuit with light toffee, some good floral hoppiness and subtle citrus. Very appealing. Initial is lighter in body, pushes nice toasty malts, caramel and biscuit again, with faint nuttiness. Earthy and floral hops, with very light citrus, the balance strikes well, the hops don’t overtake anything, but compliment the very nice malt character. Earthiness really takes over on the backend, the sweetness is there, but covered/baanced well by that and the hops. A very nice ESB, albeit my only qualm might be that it is a little thin, but I really like the flavor profile it pushes from a solid malt base to light fruitiness up front moving back to earthy hop and bitterness in the finish. Cheers! EDIT: The bit of thinner body really makes this beer go back easy.
